In the meantime, I used a replacement PSU (tier F) from the computer lab guy. Although the replacement was new and in its box, I want to share my experience regarding coil whine.
The tier F replacement PSU started off quiet, but after an hour, it began to produce loud coil whine. I had just turned off my PC for the night and didn’t mind since I knew it was only temporary. Interestingly, the coil whine mostly disappeared after a week, and the tier F PSU became almost silent.
When the new PSU arrived, it showed a similar coil whine pattern: silent at first, then a period of coil whine, followed by quiet again. However, since it’s a tier A unit, the coil whine phase was much shorter, lasting only 2-3 days. I think people who complain about coil whine should give their PSU some time before considering an RMA.
