When it comes to childproofing your home, ensuring that your little ones have a safe environment is a top priority for parents. The Regalo Easy Step 38.5-Inch Wide Walk Thru Baby Gate is designed to provide peace of mind while keeping children and pets safely contained in designated areas. With a variety of features, this baby gate stands out as a reliable choice for families.
Extra Wide for Versatile Use
The Regalo Easy Step Baby Gate is extra wide, capable of expanding to fit openings between 29-34 inches and 35-38.5 inches. Standing at a convenient height of 30 inches, it is important for parents to measure their spaces before purchasing to ensure a proper fit. However, it’s worth noting that this gate will not fit an opening between 34-35 inches without an additional 4-inch extension.
Simple Setup
Setting up the gate is straightforward and follows the manufacturer’s instructions. For added security, it is essential to use the wall cups that come included. A crucial safety tip is to never install the gate at the top of stairs to prevent falls—something every parent should keep in mind during installation.
Adjustable and Convenient
The gate includes a 6-inch wide extension kit and four pressure mount spindle rods, making it incredibly versatile for use in doorways, hallways, and at the bottom of stairs. One of the standout features is its ability to be removed quickly from the opening, allowing for easy storage when not in use. If more width is needed, additional extensions are sold separately, though the gate can only accommodate a maximum of three extensions.
Durable Design
Constructed from 100% steel, the Regalo Easy Step gate boasts a durable design that can withstand the wear and tear of daily use. The walk-through door feature adds convenience for parents, allowing for easy access while keeping the gate securely closed when not in use. Plus, it meets both JPMA and ASTM safety standards, ensuring that it is a trusted choice for safeguarding your little ones.
Safety Features
Safety is a primary concern for any parent, and this baby gate addresses that with multiple safety-lock features and four wall cups for added stability. The gate is suitable for children aged 6-24 months and is also a great option for keeping pets contained. Just remember that the gate frame is designed to be assembled at all times for optimal safety.
Conclusion
The Regalo Easy Step 38.5-Inch Wide Walk Thru Baby Gate is a practical solution for parents looking to secure their spaces effectively. With its easy setup, adjustable width, durable design, and robust safety features, this gate is an excellent investment for any household. It not only protects your children but also offers convenience for daily activities.

This product is excellent and easy to assemble. The sturdiness is decent, and the lightweight material is a plus. I really appreciate the nice white finish and the effective latch and locking mechanism. It fits perfectly for pet protection, and there were no missing parts. The Allen wrench was included in the package. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with small children or pets. Thank you!

Watch out, tiny dogs! 😆 While the dimensions of this product are clearly advertised, I underestimated the size of my new puppy. I set up the gate in just a few minutes, and before I knew it, my pup squeezed right through! It gave me a good laugh! No worries, though—I added a rollaway mesh screen on one side to keep him from slipping through the slats. As he grows, he won’t fit through them, so I’m leaving the gate up without concern.
Another feature I love about this gate is its ability to fit odd-shaped doorways. My home has plenty of crooked openings, and there’s some molding at the base that would have caused issues with other gates. I know because I tried several brands and designs before finding this one. The four points of this gate accommodate uneven doorway shapes perfectly.
This gate is beautifully constructed, very sturdy, and incredibly easy to install. Plus, the door has a safety latch to prevent it from accidentally opening. Overall, it’s an excellent product.

It’s incredible—it keeps my puppy out of my room, and he really dislikes it!

It arrived ahead of the estimated date and was very well packaged. The instructions made assembly easy, and I had no trouble installing it. The quality is great, with metal bars and durable plastic parts like the closing handle and adjustment pieces. I bought it to restrict my dogs’ access to certain areas of the house, and the door allows for easy passage without having to remove it. It can be easily relocated, which is a plus. I previously purchased two similar gates from another brand, and I must say this one cost half the price while offering the same functionality. Just a note: be sure to decide which way you want the door to open before installing, as it only opens in one direction. I highly recommend it!

This is by far the best baby gate available! Installation is a breeze—no screws and no drilling required. The construction is incredibly sturdy. The latch lock is user-friendly and can be operated with one hand. I highly recommend it—101%! I’ve already purchased three!

The Regalo Easy Step Baby Gate with the 6-Inch Extension Kit delivers solid functionality and user-friendliness, though there are a few points to consider.
Firstly, installation and adjustments are straightforward, making it easy to set up a secure barrier for children or pets. The walk-through design features a one-touch release handle, allowing for smooth passage while maintaining safety with a robust latch mechanism.
Secondly, the extension kit enhances versatility, enabling the gate to fit openings up to 38.5 inches wide. This adaptability is beneficial for larger doorways or spaces needing extra coverage.
On the downside, the gate may feel somewhat lightweight compared to more heavy-duty alternatives, which could impact its durability over time, especially in homes with active pets or frequent use.
Additionally, some users might need to pay close attention during installation to ensure proper alignment and stability, particularly when using extensions for wider openings.
In summary, the Regalo Easy Step Baby Gate with the 6-Inch Extension Kit provides dependable functionality and convenience for creating safe areas for children in the home. Despite minor concerns regarding build quality and installation, it offers peace of mind and ease of use for parents and caregivers.

This gate is a must-have for pet owners. I measured the entrance to my kitchen and purchased this gate. Although it took a little time to install, it becomes very user-friendly once set up. The best feature is that you don’t need to drill any holes for installation.

We purchased two of these gates—one at full price and the other at a third of the price, which was perfect timing since we needed to replace an old one. Our home doesn’t have much of an entrance, as we primarily use a mudroom at the side for taking off shoes. The front door is mainly for checking the mail or welcoming the occasional guest. With the stairs directly in front and the living room on one side and dining room on the other, we wanted a gate that wouldn’t spoil the stairwell wallpaper. Instead, we opted for gates on either side to block our child from both directions.
Installation was relatively straightforward, although we had to adjust the side holders a few times to ensure the gate latched properly. After three attempts, we finally got it right. The no-hardware option is sturdy enough that our 17-month-old won’t be able to push them over. However, she’s very curious about what mommy and daddy are doing and is close to figuring out how to open them. The sliding motion is just beyond her reach for now, but I know she’ll master it soon.
We appreciate that these gates can be easily removed from the doorframes, making them convenient for travel. They fit almost anywhere and won’t cause any damage, making them quite versatile. We’re considering purchasing a third and possibly a fourth for upstairs, as there are a few rooms with doors that don’t close completely, and we want to keep her out of those areas.
Buying multiple gates clearly indicates their quality. The only downside is that we find the price quite high; around the low forties seems more reasonable instead of the fluctuating sales. On a positive note, shipping was fast and efficient, which is impressive since we live in rural Ontario and rarely receive our mail quickly!
If you’re thinking about getting this gate, do yourself a favor and buy it! It’ll save you a lot of hassle, and you’ll be thankful for the safety it provides for your toddler or pet!

UPDATE: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS PRODUCT HAS SINCE UNDERGONE A MODEL CHANGE. PLEASE REFER TO THE 2013 UPDATE COMMENTS ON THE NEW MODEL AT THE END.
We needed a baby gate wide enough for the bottom of our stairs (approximately 41 inches), but many extra-wide gates were costly due to the need for extensions or hardware mounting, which I didn’t want to do to our walls or banisters. (The gate does come with hardware mounts if you prefer that option.)
This gate is fantastic and offers great value. It’s easy to operate, simple to assemble, and attaches securely. Our 5-month-old daughter pulls herself up on it, and it doesn’t budge. Recently, we had a large 18-month-old boy visiting, and even he couldn’t move it.
I’ve heard about a previous version of this gate that had safety concerns regarding finger injuries, but after thoroughly inspecting the latching system and even testing it by letting it slam on my own finger (it didn’t), I can’t see how anyone could get hurt. It seems this version has resolved any issues from the older model.
A tip for mounting it to a banister on one side: use a velcro strap to attach a board to the flat part of the banister, providing a surface for the pressure mounts to grip against.
One more note: if you hold the gate straight out of the box, it may appear broken and not close properly. The pressure applied when mounted is what ensures it functions correctly.
And to address the surprising number of people who think this is a “fake” manufacturer-generated review… it’s not. It’s been amusing to see others get worked up over my baby gate review. I have no ties to Regalo other than being a happy customer. 🙂
UPDATE 2013: We’re a bit frustrated that Amazon still displays all the old reviews after Regalo changed their product model. Most reviews you see now don’t apply to this new version. The “Regalo Easy Open 52 Inch Super Wide Walk Thru Gate” seems to match the description of the gate I originally reviewed, and that’s the one we’re ordering after returning this “new model.” We wanted a second gate because we love the original, but upon opening the box, we realized it’s not the same. The new model (as pictured) has a different operating mechanism and fewer extensions, so it doesn’t expand as much! The old mechanism was incredibly user-friendly with a simple spring-loaded thumb lever. If you compare the close-up of the latch for the “Regalo Easy Open 52 Inch Super Wide Walk Thru Gate” to the “EasyStep Walk Thru” mechanism, you’ll see the difference. The new model requires using two hands to open it: after sliding back the thumb lever, you need to lift another latch with your other hand. As any parent knows, you’ll often be juggling a child and other items, and a gate that requires two hands is a deal breaker for us! My husband, with his large hands, can technically manage to open it one-handed by pushing the lever with his thumb and nudging the latch up with his fingers, but he finds it ridiculous, and I definitely can’t do it.
