The HP DeskJet 2855e is a reliable all-in-one printer suited for basic home tasks. It effectively handles printing, scanning, and copying, and the wireless setup is user-friendly once you get the hang of it. The print quality meets the needs of everyday documents, but it falls short for photos or more intensive use. The included three months of ink is a nice touch, although the cartridges deplete quickly with frequent printing. Its compact design and affordability make it a practical choice for light home use, though don’t anticipate top-notch performance.

No surprises so far. The setup was quick, and the app is highly responsive.

I’ve been using the HP DeskJet 2855e for a few weeks now, and I’m pleasantly surprised by its performance as a budget printer. Here’s my assessment:
Design and Build Quality
The HP DeskJet 2855e features a compact and lightweight design, making it easy to place on a small desk or shelf. Its sleek white exterior gives it a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic. Although it’s primarily made of plastic, it feels sturdy enough for regular use in a home office.
Setup and Connectivity
The setup process was incredibly straightforward. Using the HP Smart app, I connected the printer to my Wi-Fi with ease. Printing from my laptop, smartphone, and tablet was seamless. Additionally, it supports AirPrint, which is a great advantage for Apple users.
Print Quality
Considering the price point, the print quality is quite satisfactory. Black-and-white documents print sharply and clearly, while color prints are vibrant, though not of professional quality. It’s suitable for everyday tasks, like printing homework, forms, or casual photos. If you’re looking for high-resolution images or professional color prints, you may want to explore more advanced models.
Performance
The printer performs adequately for basic tasks. Although it’s not the fastest option available, it’s sufficient for occasional use. The scan and copy functions operate as expected, making it a convenient all-in-one device for a home office. However, if you need to print frequently, the print speed might feel a bit sluggish.
Ink and Running Costs
HP offers 6 months of free Instant Ink with this printer, which is a terrific bonus. The Instant Ink program ensures you receive ink before you run out, based on the number of pages printed rather than ink usage. After the trial, you’ll need to subscribe to a plan, which can be economical depending on your printing habits. However, HP ink cartridges can be pricey without an Instant Ink subscription, so that’s something to consider.
Pros:
Cons:
Overall, the HP DeskJet 2855e is a reliable option if you need an economical all-in-one printer for light home use. Its easy setup, wireless capability across multiple devices, and free Instant Ink make it an appealing choice for casual users. However, it may not suit those who require high-quality color prints or fast printing speeds for heavy workloads.

Good printer for the cost. Functions well and is simple to set up.

I previously owned an Epson printer and ended up spending nearly three times as much on this new one. I had to purchase new ink for the Epson, which cost about the same as this printer at Walmart. Despite trying to clean the heads multiple times, I couldn’t get the ink to load properly. That said, this printer performs exceptionally well for the price. It produces vibrant color prints that surpass my Epson. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you don’t do a lot of printing at once.

It arrived quickly and in good condition. A basic printer, but it gets the job done.

If you’re in the market for a home printer and want a hassle-free setup, this is the one to buy. We were replacing our old printer, and my husband initially chose a different model that came with complicated instructions for unpacking and setup. After struggling with the installation process (which remained incomplete), we returned it. I had my eye on this printer, and now it’s happily sitting on my desk. Unpacking and setup were a breeze—just installed the HP software, and within minutes, it was connected to my laptop and Wi-Fi without any issues. A few more minutes, and it was also set up on my husband’s computer and our phones. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. It has a compact design, which is a bonus. While it prints a bit slowly, it doesn’t bother me at all. Overall, it’s a fantastic printer!

I was pleased to receive it three days ahead of schedule. However, my disc drive drawer is not working, so I can’t run the installation disc. I went to the website and downloaded the installation program instead. In my 50 years of using printers, every one has asked whether I want it to be the primary printer and if I want an icon on the toolbar—this one didn’t ask either question. I followed the WiFi setup instructions, and while it detected the WiFi, it’s at the same distance from the WiFi as my computer, which is connected. I plan to uninstall and reinstall it. If that doesn’t work, I might seek help from someone who knows how to connect a printer to a PC.

I experimented with new inks and purchased a cable to connect my printer to my laptop. It functions inconsistently.

I purchased this printer earlier this summer for my son to take to his college dorm room. Unfortunately, we had a frustrating experience setting it up for printing from his iPhone and laptop using the university’s wifi. The printer setup app indicated the university network was unsupported and suggested trying a different network or contacting HP support.
Despite the printer having an Ethernet port, the setup app only provided the wifi option, and the manual discouraged the use of Ethernet, warning it would limit some features. They even covered the Ethernet port with a sticker to prevent use! Plus, you can’t connect an Ethernet cable to a smartphone.
I reached out to HP support via chat, following the link in the error message. After a 20-minute wait to connect with an agent, I was met with frustratingly slow response times. The agent asked only two basic questions with long delays between each reply. Eventually, he confirmed that the university wifi being a public network wouldn’t work and suggested using a hotspot from my son’s iPhone, which isn’t possible due to his phone plan.
Now, I’m stuck with a printer I can’t return since I’m past the return deadline. I’ve ordered an Ethernet cable, hoping it will allow at least some printing from his laptop, though the setup options don’t support it and the manual warns against it. As for printing from the iPhone, it seems that’s not an option either. I’m incredibly disappointed with the poor customer support and the lack of helpful information in the manual!
