I purchased this drum kit for my 8-year-old who recently started taking drum lessons. The module features simple, easy-to-understand buttons and offers a variety of sound selections. Plus, the drums have Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to connect to an iPad.
One of the best perks is the free 90-day online drum lessons with no credit card required for registration, making it ideal for beginners. Definitely take advantage of this offer!
The only downside I’ve noticed is that the frame is a bit wobbly if shaken, especially compared to my previous Yamaha electric drum, which felt sturdier. However, this isn’t a deal breaker for me, as it remains stable while playing.

The sound quality is impressive, and the drum heads are well constructed. The sticks feel comfortable with a nice bounce. The MIDI pickups function flawlessly, and the control head offers a variety of great drum kit sounds. This set fits perfectly in smaller spaces. The only downside is the plastic clamps, which make the set a bit wobbly, and the snare drum tends to slide down during play. I purchased an inexpensive snare drum stand that worked well. I believe you can find an e-drum stand with aluminum brackets for under $200, which would significantly enhance this kit. Nonetheless, I still recommend this set for the price.

Excellent battery, met all my expectations.

This is arguably the best budget kit available on Amazon, offering numerous significant advantages with only a few minor drawbacks.

Cons:
Expansion Pack:
I highly recommend purchasing the Alesis Drums Nitro Max Expansion Pack.
Headphones:
If you intend to practice quietly with headphones, consider getting two pairs that can connect to each other for teaching purposes. I chose the OneOdio Over Ear Wired Headphones, which come with two cords (black 3.5mm and red 1/4″). Only the red cord is necessary, but you’ll need a 1/4″ Female Stereo to 2 x 1/4″ Male Mono Y Splitter since the module has two 1/4″ female mono jacks.
For MIDI connectivity with an iPad (which has a Lightning connector and headphone jack), you may need:
For iPad audio connectivity:
Summary:
I really like this kit, and in my opinion, it’s worth the price.

The drum set meets my expectations perfectly. It works great and was easy to assemble thanks to the detailed instructions and numerous online videos. The Bluetooth module is a real game changer.

The overall performance of this electric drum set is impressive. It’s the only one I’ve seen and tested, so I can’t compare it to others from different brands. I purchased it for my son to take drum lessons, and I can confidently say it’s a high-quality product with top-notch materials and finishes. The module is very comprehensive, packed with features that we’ve only begun to explore. You simply turn it on, and it’s ready to play.
The rack feels a bit fragile, but that’s not due to poor construction; rather, the position and weight of the drums cause it to shift slightly. However, when you’re playing, it remains stable and doesn’t feel like it will topple over. The standout feature is definitely the drums themselves. The mesh heads feel great, are very quiet, and highly responsive; it’s impressive technology at work. Plus, they look fantastic.
On the other hand, the cymbals, being made of rubber, are a bit noisier and less sensitive, so the playing experience isn’t as good as with the drums. I think they should consider alternative materials for the cymbals in the future. I have it connected to an amplifier, which is more than sufficient for practice, but the real surprise comes when you plug in some good noise-canceling headphones with strong bass. The sound is astonishingly clear; you hardly notice the noise from the drums and cymbals, and the more you play, the more you want to keep going.
You can also stream music from your phone through Bluetooth and listen to it through the headphones connected to the drum set, which sounds fantastic. If you enjoy drumming, you can easily spend hours playing and exploring its various drum kits. Overall, this is an excellent drum set at a price that I personally find very low compared to professional brands like Yamaha or Roland.

This kit looks fantastic and is a breeze to assemble. The sound quality is impressive. Just keep in mind that you’ll need headphones or an amp to hear it properly. The Bluetooth feature is a nice touch for jamming along with your favorite songs. It’s lightweight and compact, making it easy to store away.

The setup process was quite simple, and I definitely suggest watching the setup video on the Alesis support site for guidance. Once put together, the rack feels a bit wobbly for my taste, but after a week of intense playing (I’m a heavy hitter), the pads remain stable with no sagging, so I consider it a minor issue to monitor rather than a major concern.
The kit itself looks fantastic. The white drum heads give it an acoustic vibe, and the red trim adds a nice touch. The 10″ snare offers enough room for me to play freely without needing to focus on every stroke, while the 8″ toms are adequately sized for me to hit without constant glances.
All the pads respond excellently; I was able to play 16th note single stroke rolls at 150 bpm across each pad without a single missed trigger. The velocity mapping in my VST software accurately reflected the changes in my playing intensity, allowing for subtle variations in sound similar to acoustic drums.
The Alesis drum module features Bluetooth connectivity, which lets you listen to external music sources (note that it does not support audio output). This function worked flawlessly. However, the drum samples included in the Nitro module are not the best; I’d guess the tom and cymbal sounds are synthesized rather than recorded from real instruments.
Fortunately, if you have access to a Mac or Windows computer, this isn’t a significant drawback since Alesis provides a free copy of BFD Player along with the Dark Mahogany sound pack—a fantastic VST software that replaces the module’s sounds with professionally recorded acoustic drum samples.
Overall, I’ve been very pleased with what the Alesis Nitro Max offers, especially for the price. The inclusion of a real bass drum pedal and the open/half-open triggers on the hi-hat pedal are definite advantages. I particularly appreciate the adjustable cymbal mounts, which can be positioned in various ways (perfect for someone who likes to tweak their setup regularly). As a beginner transitioning to an intermediate player, I need a kit that accurately reflects my playing, and the Alesis Nitro Max has met that need perfectly. I highly recommend this drum set to anyone looking for a versatile and solid-sounding kit for beginner or intermediate players.

I highly recommend investing in the Pro version. It’s significantly more stable and performs better overall. I purchased this for my son, and he’s having a great time with it. The quality is exceptional. Everything assembled seamlessly, with no issues in installation, whether mechanical or electrical. It fits perfectly in a tight space, and we can barely hear it while he’s playing. Definitely worth every penny.
