Although this is an entry-level instrument, the craftsmanship is impressive. There are no sharp edges, and everything is well-made. While the octave tuning is not perfect out of the box, it can be easily adjusted with the included tool. The fingerboard is comfortably designed, making playing enjoyable.

This is my second purchase from this seller, and the guitar arrived perfectly adjusted and in great condition. The packaging was excellent, and out of all the guitars I own, this one has become my favorite. Highly recommended!

I purchased this for myself as I wanted to transition from a traditional to an electric model. It’s a great product in terms of both sound quality and overall construction. The standard size is perfect for adults. It arrived well-packaged and without any scratches. The Dakota Red color is truly beautiful and makes a statement. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to learn without breaking the bank.

I received this guitar on November 29, 2024, and here are my thoughts. It arrived perfectly set up with appropriate neck relief and string height. The tuners function smoothly and maintain tuning well. The strings are satisfactory, with no sharp fret ends, and the frets are highly polished. The neck shape is comfortable to play. The pickup switch operates effectively, and both tone and volume controls are smooth. The output jack is securely tightened and works without issues. The pickups sound good, aligning nicely under the strings, reminiscent of vintage models. It resonates well even when unplugged.

The tremolo arm screws in correctly, but the tremolo requires significant pressure to operate. This isn’t a problem; it’s likely designed to help maintain tuning. For those new to Strats, it’s worth noting that vintage tremolos often struggle with staying in tune, so it’s best not to rely on it too much—consider it more for aesthetics. Achieving proper tremolo functionality takes considerable skill and investment, often exceeding the guitar’s cost. This model is set up with the tremolo decked to the body, allowing for a downward motion only.

If you’re starting out, focus on developing your skills rather than relying on the tremolo; leave the arm in the bag. There’s nothing to fix or replace to make this a solid guitar for learning. The low price seems aimed at getting beginners started, with hopes of them later purchasing a more expensive model or opting for upgrades and online lessons. It’s akin to buying an inexpensive inkjet printer with ongoing ink costs.

Is the guitar worth it? Absolutely. Consider investing in a $30 case to protect it. If you’re buying for someone learning to play, keep in mind that many beginners lose interest quickly in favor of their phones or video games, making a budget-friendly guitar a smart choice. The two-year warranty adds extra value. Be cautious when removing the plastic from the pickguard and pickups, as it scratches easily.

After a few days, I felt the nut needed slight filing for each string, which I addressed. I also lowered the action below Fender’s specs to 4mm without any buzzing. These adjustments are typical for a new Strat. Overall, I’m very pleased with this guitar.

      The Devil’s Advocate

My guitar arrived without any sharp fret ends, and the fret tops were polished, feeling smooth to the touch. It was highly playable right out of the box. The action measured 1.5mm on the low E at the 12th fret, and even lower on the high E, with no buzzing when played gently. The intonation was accurate for all but one string, which was only slightly off. The bridge was decked initially, and floating it was the only adjustment required. The truss rod was perfectly set, with just a hint of relief in the neck. While I didn’t check the gap between the strings and the first fret or examine the nut closely, there were no signs of issues with the nut. The back of the neck is a bit rough, as noted by YouTube reviewers, but the satin finish looks and feels great, resisting fingerprints better than a glossy finish. The guitar weighs just under 7 pounds.

In terms of tuning stability, the guitar holds tune well with light tremolo use, but the tuners are a weak point. They function adequately and keep the guitar in tune, but they feel stiff at times, making them tricky to turn. Occasionally, the knobs turn without much effect, and sometimes a slight turn results in a significant change, complicating minor adjustments. While they could be better, they are serviceable and would be the first thing I’d consider replacing. The tremolo block is also quite thin, which might warrant an upgrade. I haven’t played it much through an amp yet, but my initial impression is that it sounds decent; the bridge pickup is a bit shrill, but adjusting the tone control makes it more acceptable.

For beginners, this guitar is ready to play straight out of the box. All you need to do is tune it and start enjoying it, which was the case with my guitar, though experiences may vary. Given that some reviewers reported similar experiences, it seems Fender is making an effort to set up these guitars before shipping. My initial experience with this guitar surpasses any Indio or Firefly I’ve owned and is on par with most IYV or Harley Bentons. With its competitive pricing from a reputable brand and the added bonus of three free months of Fender Play, I believe this guitar is an excellent choice for beginner guitarists. I highly recommend it to both beginners and experienced players alike.
