If you’re looking to inject laughter and creativity into your next game night, look no further than Ransom Notes, the ridiculous word magnet party game that’s sure to become a staple in your collection. Designed for 3 to 6 players, this game promises to deliver endless hilarity as you craft absurd and often nonsensical sentences in response to outrageous prompts.
What’s Inside the Box?
Ransom Notes is packed with an impressive array of components that enhance gameplay:
- 840 high-quality word magnets – These magnets are designed to break apart easily and quickly, allowing for seamless gameplay.
- 6 metal submission cards – Perfect for collecting the best (or most absurd) responses from players.
- 250 prompt cards – Each card features a unique and often ridiculous scenario, ensuring that no two games are ever the same.
- Instructions – Simple and straightforward, so you can start playing in under a minute!
How to Play
One of the best features of Ransom Notes is its ease of play. In less than a minute, you can learn the rules and dive straight into the fun. Players simply grab a handful of word magnets, flip over a prompt card, and let their creativity run wild. The limitations of the word pool encourage players to think outside the box, resulting in laugh-out-loud responses that will have everyone in stitches.
Perfect for Any Gathering
Ransom Notes accommodates 3 to 6 players, but it’s also ideal for larger groups who can team up for even more hilarious outcomes. With a playtime ranging from 30 to 90 minutes, it fits perfectly into casual gatherings, family game nights, or parties with friends. However, it’s worth noting that while many of the prompt cards are family-friendly, some may not be suitable for all audiences. Fortunately, you can easily tailor the game to be PG by removing a few cards.
Ideal Gift for Any Occasion
This game makes for a fantastic gift for birthdays, Christmas, Father’s Day, or as a fun surprise for creative friends. It’s the kind of game that will bring everyone together, whether during Thanksgiving dinner or a cozy night in with friends.
Final Thoughts
With its unique blend of creativity and humor, Ransom Notes is more than just a game; it’s a recipe for unforgettable moments and endless laughter. The high-quality components and straightforward gameplay ensure that it will be a hit with both casual players and seasoned game night enthusiasts. If you’re ready to unleash your inner comedian, grab Ransom Notes and get ready for a night filled with ridiculous fun!

This game is easy to pick up and great for groups. While I initially thought it was pricey, it turned out to be the same cost as my local store, and with the postal strike, Amazon was my quickest option. We’ve shared plenty of laughs playing it, so despite the price, I believe it was worth it.

This game is both engaging and full of surprises, often leading to hilarious outcomes. I found it difficult to even read one player’s response for several minutes because I was laughing so hard right from the start. The initial setup can be a bit time-consuming since all the word magnets come in sheets and need to be separated. It took two of us about 15 to 20 minutes, so make sure to plan ahead if you’re using it for a party. However, it’s definitely worth the effort! If you’re playing with over-thinkers, consider setting a time limit to keep the game moving.

This game is a blast and really challenges your thinking! The responses are incredibly diverse and creative, often leading to hilarious outcomes. A few cards do prompt more personal or slightly risqué answers, but we simply skip those when playing with certain guests.

This game is absolutely hilarious! I just got it and played with my family, including kids as young as 12. We even tried it with the 7 and 8-year-olds, and they had a blast as well. You can choose to play a more restrained game or really go wild, and either way, it’s an absolute blast! It’s quick and easy to learn. It takes a little time to set up the words, but once you’re ready, it’s non-stop fun!

It’s like Cards Against Humanity meets Mad Libs! My 24-year-old son and I modified the game for just the two of us, and we had a fantastic holiday afternoon playing it. There are plenty of suggestions for adapting the game, making it easy and hilariously fun.
Our favorite responses formed a short, two-part story based on the prompt, “describe the history of humanity”:
“UFO releases rogue beast. Darkness.”
“We grunt bro.”
On the downside, the word magnets can be difficult for those with joint pain or mobility issues to separate. They also feel a bit low-quality, with a paper front that tends to peel away from the magnet backing, and I expect they’ll fade quickly with use. The good news is that you can easily replace the words with adhesive printer labels. However, given the price of the game, it would have been nice if the quality were better right out of the box and if you didn’t have to spend a frustrating hour separating them.
Now that we’ve taken care of the magnets, I anticipate playing this game frequently and am excited to try it out with a larger group!

I bought this game for a family holiday night after seeing its positive reviews. However, I spent an hour just separating all the pieces. When we started playing, many of the magnet words were stuck together, which meant I had to spend extra time separating them and flipping them over to read. There’s really no effective way to mix them in the bag since they cling to each other. Trying to read the available words before responding to the prompt makes the suggested time limit of 60-90 seconds nearly impossible. It felt like too much work, and since I took the time to separate everything, I doubt I can return it. The concept is good, but it didn’t meet our expectations.

This game is a blast! I love how it offers a unique response each time. I’d even welcome a noun expansion pack; that would be fantastic. It felt a bit pricey at first, but upon receiving it, I realized the quality is impressive. There are plenty of cards to enjoy as well. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

I purchased this for my brother’s birthday, and it’s such a fun game! We all had a great time and shared plenty of laughs. However, I found the magnet pieces to be very flimsy and prone to breaking. I had to glue the paper back on five different pieces before we even got started, and separating the word magnets can be quite tedious if you want to avoid tearing them. Despite the issues with the magnets, I still believe it’s a worthy buy. We’ve enjoyed it a lot and I’m excited to add it to our regular party game lineup! 🙂 8/10

My daughters, my 12-year-old granddaughter, and I played this game on Christmas Day. It’s easy to play, well-designed, and compact, making it perfect for taking to gatherings. We had a blast and laughed uncontrollably! Sometimes, we struggled to finish our notes because we were too busy cracking up at our own jokes 🤣 Everyone enjoyed the game, and I plan to gift it to all my cool kid friends in the future!

My partner and I absolutely enjoy this game! We frequently host friends, and it’s always a blast. While the setup takes a few minutes, once everyone is ready, the laughter comes easily. The game is straightforward and well-designed.
