The ThinkFun Gravity Maze is an excellent brain-teaser that merges fun with education. My children, along with the adults, love the challenge of navigating the marble through the maze. It starts off simple but quickly escalates in difficulty, keeping everyone involved. It’s a superb way to promote problem-solving and spatial reasoning skills. The components are durable and well-crafted, although I would have appreciated a few more levels or challenges. Overall, it’s an enjoyable and educational toy that offers hours of entertainment. A fantastic option for kids aged 8 and up!

I purchased this game for my 6-year-old nephew, and he absolutely loved it! The setup is intuitive, allowing him to grasp the mechanics with minimal help. It effectively introduces essential concepts of physics and problem-solving in a natural way; for instance, a ball rolling down a hill won’t just drop straight down or change direction on its own, no matter how much you wish it would.
The rules are straightforward: there’s a starting point and an endpoint fixed on a grid, along with a list of freely usable pieces to reach that endpoint. Depending on the level, there may be additional fixed pieces on the grid. I pointed out the dots indicating the orientation of the starting pieces, which was the starting point and which was the endpoint, and my nephew was off and running within minutes. His previous experience with Lego sets made it easy for him to understand the importance of correctly orienting the starting pieces.
The game gradually increases in complexity, introducing longer paths, double-stacked pieces, free pieces that must be laid horizontally, and solutions that require the ball to cross the same piece multiple times. While my nephew needed some encouragement at certain progression points, his understanding came naturally and was very rewarding for both of us. Conceptually, the game is enjoyable, even for adults.
However, like others, I find it disappointing that a game with such well-designed mechanics has some noticeable build quality and design flaws. The pieces don’t snap together as satisfyingly as they should, and an excited 6-year-old might get frustrated when they fall apart while he’s rushing to find a solution. Additionally, while the orientation dots are functionally adequate, they could be more visible. A side panel on the ramp cells with an arrow indicating the direction of the inner path would also help reduce frustration when setting up the board with the bright fluorescent clear plastic pieces, allowing for more time to enjoy solving the puzzles. I wouldn’t mind paying an extra $5 to $7 for a set with a more solid, polished feel.
Ultimately, despite the build issues being a minor nuisance, the enjoyment of the puzzles far outweighs them.

It’s decent, but it could benefit from having more pieces. There aren’t enough to make it truly engaging.

I was searching for a gift for an 8-year-old with a sharp mind who enjoys a challenge. I love that this game offers a unique experience every time and encourages players to find solutions with various maze pieces. Some of the tougher mazes require creative thinking. The pieces and cards are made from high-quality plastic, and it can definitely be addictive! 🙂
