I recently purchased the 24-inch suitcase after previously getting the 21-inch and 28-inch models. The size difference allows me to nest the 21-inch inside the 28-inch without any issues. However, I found that the 21-inch is only suitable for a couple of days’ worth of packing. That’s why I decided to go for the 24-inch size, which falls in between.
It’s worth noting that anything larger than 21 inches needs to be checked. Some airlines may even raise concerns if the 21-inch is expanded and doesn’t fit comfortably in the baggage size checker at the gate or check-in. So, it’s best to avoid expanding the 21-inch when planning to use it as a carry-on.
I was initially hesitant to order the 24-inch because I couldn’t find any information confirming whether it would fit inside the 28-inch model. The dimensional difference between the 24 and 28-inch models is less significant compared to the 21 and 28-inch. This factor matters if you have limited storage space at home or are in a cramped hotel room without a good spot to store both sizes.
Despite my uncertainty, I decided to take a chance and order the 24-inch. The good news is that the 21-inch fits comfortably inside it. However, the 28-inch doesn’t close as easily with the 24-inch inside; it seems a bit too thick. Fortunately, all three models feature an expansion zipper, which allows the 28-inch to close properly once expanded.
In summary, you can nest all three sizes (21/24/28) together, but you’ll need to expand the 28-inch first. When stored together, they will require a bit more space than expected. I wouldn’t recommend compressing the expansion zipper for long-term storage, though.
As for the quality of the cases, they’ve proven to be sturdy and lightweight without feeling flimsy. The double wheels on each corner provide better stability and maneuverability over rough surfaces compared to single-wheeled spinner cases. I really dislike those. The spinners allow for easy rolling, even with a heavy backpack on top. The larger sizes offer more stability, but the 21-inch performs well too.
You can also position two of these spinners back to back, holding their extended handles together with one hand, and use your knee to push the larger one forward while guiding the smaller one along.
The plastic sides tend to accumulate static electricity in low humidity, attracting dust and hair if laid on a carpet. Rubbing the exterior with a dryer sheet might help mitigate this.
Some colors feature a glossy finish, while others, like navy blue, have a subtle diamond-shaped matte texture. Scratches are inevitable after passing through an airport baggage system, but they may be less noticeable on lighter colors. Just remember that these are hard-sided cases, so they don’t have the outer pockets that can easily tear like soft-sided luggage, and they come with expansion zippers that many hard-sided options lack. So choose a color you like and try not to stress over it. They occasionally go on sale; I got my first set of 21/28 for under two hundred dollars, though I think they’re generally overpriced.
