The lights kept turning off repeatedly throughout the night without any motion detection. I attempted to reset them and even replaced the batteries, but the issue persisted. It drains a fresh set of D cell batteries in just a week. I’m currently waiting for suggestions from Blink support, but as it stands, the light hardware feels completely useless.
Update 12/14/24: Blink support was very helpful; they first replaced the light and then the camera. After replacing the camera, the system functions flawlessly. The lights now only turn off when the camera detects motion, and they are bright enough to ensure the camera captures vibrant color images at night.

I think these cameras are pretty great. I wanted something simple, and even though I have some technical knowledge, I didn’t want to deal with a complicated setup. It’s actually quite straightforward. My main concern was getting the Wi-Fi set up, which can be a bit tricky with the little white box. To connect, you need that box linked to your Wi-Fi, as the cameras work off of it. I recommend placing the cameras as close to your router as possible for a stronger signal, since the distance from the white box really matters. Also, make sure you have a phone you use regularly for the app, as the cameras send notifications there.
Find a good spot for your camera and mount it following the provided instructions, and you should be fine. Again, getting the Wi-Fi set up is the trickiest part, so do that first before installation to ensure you’re ready to go. After that, you just need to adjust the camera angles and settings to your preference.
I have three cameras and have been using them for about three months now. The picture quality is excellent both day and night. I appreciate being able to hear what’s happening outside and communicate if necessary. The only downside is that they don’t perform well in foggy conditions, and moisture can make the camera images blurry. They handle rain fairly well, but I would be cautious of fogging up, as that happened to me at night when visibility went down. I was pleasantly surprised that the rain didn’t damage the cameras, even after days of downpour.
The batteries lasted just over three months, which is impressive considering I have them running every day. I started with one camera, and the AA batteries drained first, followed by the D batteries. I’m noticing a pattern with their lifespan, so I expect the last camera will need new batteries soon. Battery life seems to depend on recording frequency and how often the floodlights activate, which only turn on at night.
In terms of cost, I spent about $54.08 for a pack of AA and D batteries when bought together. Currently, a 12-pack of AA batteries is around $33, while a 12-pack of D batteries costs about $17 on Amazon. That’s enough for three cameras. If you multiply that by four, the total comes to $316.32, including the $100 yearly subscription. Not too shabby.
I might be forgetting some details, but overall, I really love these cameras. You won’t find a better outdoor option out there. I spent hours researching before making my decision, and I found the reviews on Amazon to be quite confusing—with so many mixed opinions. After reading what others had to say about this camera, I decided to take a chance, and it paid off. I honestly don’t have much negative feedback to share. I think you’ll be happy with it. This is my first product review ever, and I’m considering getting another camera eventually, but not right now due to budget constraints.

I’m absolutely thrilled with this product and really appreciate its size. I regret only buying one on Prime Day. Although I’m not particularly tech-savvy, the installation process was a breeze. I snagged it for $64 during Prime Day, and I’m disappointed to see the price go back up since I’m trying to save for bigger adventures. The clarity is impressive, and it comes with everything needed for an outdoor camera. I can communicate through the app, rewatch videos, and it features a motion sensor, high-quality night vision, and lights for nighttime use. I definitely plan to purchase another for the backyard in the future!

Let me start by clarifying that this isn’t a high-end, 24/7 recording device with 4K resolution—if that’s what you’re after, you’ll need to spend a few hundred more. However, the picture quality is pretty good. I’ve noticed that Blink’s wired devices tend to be more responsive when it comes to motion detection. With this battery-operated model, there is a slight delay of a few seconds, but I found a workaround. If you have an Alexa device and can set up routines, create one that notifies you via push and announces motion detection. For some reason, this eliminates the lag; I had my wife trigger it, and immediately Alexa announced motion at the floodlight. The Blink app, on the other hand, was about 3 to 4 seconds behind with notifications.
When considering the value of Blink devices, they really stand out. I’ve had positive experiences with customer service—they even replaced one of my cameras without hesitation after a few tests. This shows that Blink stands behind their products. However, I have to call them out on their battery life claim. Unless you severely limit the usage of your lights and cameras, you won’t get the advertised two years. I really like Blink, but they should stop promoting that because it’s misleading. To achieve that battery life, you’d have to set everything to the lowest settings and be in a very low-traffic area, which isn’t the reason many of us purchased them.
The lights are quite bright, though some might exaggerate this. I’ve had Blink cameras and lights withstand extreme weather conditions here in Michigan—rain, snow, heat, and cold—and a few of them have lasted over five years. When comparing prices, Blink offers tremendous value. Just remember, it’s not high-definition 4K, and the sound quality isn’t Bose-level, but for me, it records well, alerts me promptly, and endures harsh weather. If you’re looking for something more advanced, be prepared to spend an extra $300 to $600. Blink may not be perfect, but it does what it’s supposed to do. Many complaints about missed events are often due to low battery or weak Wi-Fi signals. I keep my batteries fresh and ensure a strong Wi-Fi connection, and I don’t experience those issues.
