The system arrived quickly and in excellent condition. After sorting through the parts, I found that I had received two incorrect bolts and nuts. However, a quick call to Lifetime resolved the issue, and I received the correct parts within four days. One thing to note: the instructions indicate that you need two 3/8″ nuts, but about eight steps into assembly, it becomes clear that you actually need two on one page and two on another. We made a quick trip to Home Depot, and for just 32 cents (plus the high cost of gas), we were back on track. I recommend organizing the parts according to the instruction pages (which I did not do), as I discovered some parts on the list that were unnecessary (I double-checked this). It seems the parts list may be outdated or mismatched with the current kit. Overall, assembly was somewhat frustrating at times. The diagrams lack detail compared to the parts list, which can cause confusion when you’re expecting to see specific features like a rim on a nut or a curve on a pole arm. That said, the instructions weren’t too bad, and the total of 39.5 steps helped simplify things a bit. It took two of us about 5-6 hours to complete the assembly, which included removing and reinstalling three pieces due to misaligned holes based on an incomplete diagram. I’m not particularly handy, so that could have contributed to the time. Installing the hole and bottom pole was straightforward, but I needed eight 50-pound bags of concrete for proper leveling. I used quick-setting post concrete, which may have affected the process. The system itself is fantastic. It looks and feels great. There’s a bit of give on the backboard and rim when taking shots, but for under $400, I’m very impressed. The height adjustment is incredibly easy to operate; even my 6-year-old can do it one-handed. In summary, plan ahead: allow at least three days for the concrete to properly cure and half a day for part layout, assembly, and installation. Then, enjoy this excellent system for the price!

It took a few hours to assemble, but it was absolutely worth it! Thankfully, we had all the necessary tools on hand. We decided to treat the building process as an event, which kept things relaxed and enjoyable, rather than stressing about not being able to use it right away. I provided snacks and drinks for my husband while he worked, and I helped by flipping through the instruction manual as he completed each step. I made sure to reward him with lunch afterward. The assembly went smoothly and stress-free, and now we have the most sturdy and fantastic basketball hoop to enjoy for a lifetime!

My sons, aged 14 and 17, assembled it together. It took them a few hours, but they managed to figure it out and absolutely love it!

After researching various portable basketball hoops, I ultimately chose the Lifetime XL due to its larger 54-inch backboard compared to others in the same price range. I snagged it on Amazon (not through a third party) for just $220, which I think is a fantastic deal. The delivery was impressively quick, arriving at my doorstep in under a week.
I’m fairly handy when it comes to assembly, and it took me about 2.5 hours to put this hoop together. Having another adult to help would have sped things up a bit. I found the instructions to be clear and much better than many products I’ve encountered, where the instructions often seem poorly translated.
To ensure the base wouldn’t crack during winter due to freezing water, we filled it with sand. Once filled, the base is sturdy yet manageable for an adult to move across pavement (moving it on grass required two people).
My kids, a 15-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son, love the height adjustability feature. They can easily adjust the height by themselves without any issues. While the backboard is a bit less sturdy than those in high school gyms, I expected that given the reasonable price of $220. The orange rim, however, is surprisingly solid and doesn’t move when the ball hits it, which is a nice touch.
Overall, this is an excellent product that will motivate my kids to put down their electronic devices and enjoy some fresh air and exercise! 🙂

After reading numerous reviews about the installation of this hoop, with many claiming it takes over 4 hours and some saying it can take all day, I decided to post an ad on Kijiji for help, and I’m really glad I did. I offered $150 and received responses from over 10 people. After making a few calls, I found a nice guy to assist me. Unfortunately, things went south right from the beginning. When he started, the poles weren’t aligned properly and seemed almost permanently stuck together. No amount of clever tricks could fix this. Thankfully, after contacting customer service, they suggested dropping the combined poles on a blanket horizontally 40 times to separate them. After 30 loud drops that scared the neighbors, the poles finally came apart. Customer service even offered to send me free replacement poles if the method didn’t work, which really impressed me. Kudos to the company!
Two hours later, I had to step in because this is definitely not a one-person job. I was holding the partially assembled backboard and reclining poles, and when the weight of the backboard shifted, my fingers got caught in the reclining mechanism, resulting in a nasty 1.5-inch gash on my middle finger. I genuinely thought I might lose my finger. I managed to push the flesh back into place and sat there in shock, contemplating how I would manage my $20 million IT project the next day. Fortunately, the shock wore off, and I decided to drive myself to the hospital for minor surgery and stitches.
The following day, my contractor returned to finish the job for another $150. A friend also helped out, and although he initially refused payment, I insisted on giving him $100 for the favor. In total, I spent $450 on the hoop, $400 on labor, and incurred costs for minor surgery on my finger. However, seeing the kids enjoy playing on a sturdy, top-of-the-line portable hoop, which remains moderately mobile even when filled with water, is absolutely priceless. Lesson learned: unless you have plenty of free time, two teenage sons to assist, are over 6 feet tall, and enjoy assembling 100 metal parts for four hours, it’s best to get help with this setup.

This product is quite impressive, and it’s no surprise that it’s a top seller on Amazon. The 4” pole provides excellent stability, and the steel-framed backboard is equally robust. While the instructions were decent, I also utilized YouTube for assembly guidance. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as some reviews suggested. The BILT app offers step-by-step instructions, which is helpful. There is a slight shake in the backboard, but that’s typical for portable hoops. Adjusting the height is a breeze. Given the price, the quality is outstanding. I would definitely recommend this basketball hoop to anyone in the market for one.

I had some reservations about the cost, but the value of this product is undeniable. It’s extremely durable. Adjusting the height is a breeze and feels very stable. The net has endured quite a bit; it was left out during an ice storm and fell over with a loud crash. I expected it to be broken and the net to be out of alignment, but to my surprise, it remained unharmed. We finally managed to retrieve it, and it’s in perfect condition.

Solid product. Assembly was straightforward with just a basic ratchet set and a drill for the self-tapping screws; it did require a bit of extra effort. I’m puzzled by all the negative reviews regarding the assembly process. The instructions were clear, and there are plenty of helpful videos from Lifetime on YouTube.
Some clips feature people frustrated with screws not going in as instructed when told to “hand-tighten.” Unless the bolt is cross-threaded, a little extra effort should do the trick. In those videos, it seemed like their power tools were just slipping.
I weighted the base with water/gel filler and added four 50 lb. sandbags for stability. It’s easy for my 13-year-old to lower, but raising it is a bit more challenging for him since he’s on the lighter side. 😊 The court will be smoothed out and set up after winter.
