This microphone is an excellent budget-friendly choice compared to some of Shure’s other models. I’ve paired mine with a low desk-mounted mic arm and a GOXLR Mini. It’s ideal for Discord and streaming if that’s your thing. The audio quality is outstanding, the build feels robust, and the design is sleek. The clarity of the sound is exceptional. After buying two Blue Yeti microphones over the years, I genuinely wish I had opted for this one instead. This is my first experience with an XLR microphone, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I’ve noticed many reviews claim it’s too quiet, but I’m not sure what those users are doing differently—I haven’t encountered that issue at all, and I’m definitely new to this area. Keep in mind that you’ll need to purchase a cable and an audio interface, which can add to the overall cost. I chose a budget-friendly interface for now, and it still works wonderfully. This version is strictly XLR, so there’s no USB option or controls on the mic itself, but it’s a great way to start with a reputable brand at a reasonable price.

While there are higher-end models from Shure, like the SM7B, which many content creators use, you need to consider that you’re paying about 260 euros more just for a USB connection, headphone jack, and volume control. Sound-wise, they’re nearly identical. In fact, some reviews suggest that the MV7X even has a slightly clearer sound, likely due to the additional circuits in the SM7B that can introduce extra noise.
Most users won’t require those extra features; since this is an XLR microphone, you’ll need an interface that likely has a volume control. Muting can easily be managed via macros. At home, you’re generally using the XLR connection rather than USB. There are people who need a USB connection for recording outdoors without an interface, but I would still suggest exploring other options. Otherwise, I would never pay 260 euros more for virtually the same microphone unless you specifically need one of those features.
For 170 euros, the MV7X is an excellent choice that I would highly recommend!

I’ve tried several microphones, including Hypercast, Blue Yeti, and Audio Technica, and while they were all good, they were condenser mics that picked up too much background noise during party chats. When it was time for a new mic, I opted for this dynamic Shure mic, which is quite popular for a reason. I didn’t go for the high-end SM7B, but this model seemed like a perfect mid-range option, and it has been fantastic.
The build quality is impressive, and the design is straightforward yet feels solid. It doesn’t pick up background noise as intensely, and when positioned close, it captures my voice beautifully. The sound is crisp and clear, offering a distinct quality compared to other mics I’ve used.
I’ve been using it with my PS5 through an Elgato Wave XLR, and everything works flawlessly. It’s also connected to my PC via a Minifuse 2 audio interface with a Cloudlifter, and there are no problems there either. I definitely recommend this mic if you want high quality without spending a fortune.

I was torn between the Blue Sona and the SM7B when I first made my choice. I initially chose the Blue Sona because it looked great and had claims of superior sound rejection. However, I found that it didn’t live up to those claims. When I compared it directly, its sound rejection was barely better than my AT2020, which wasn’t justifiable at its $300 price point.
I then decided to try the MV7X. Given its price, even a slight improvement over the AT2020 would make it worthwhile. I can confidently say that between the Blue Sona and the MV7X, the MV7X delivers outstanding noise rejection! Despite having five fans running in my bedroom, I can hardly hear them when recording. This mic has provided me with the sound quality and noise isolation I needed!

Edit: I ended up returning it for the MV7+. While the MV7X sounded fantastic, I opted for the MV7+ because I’m setting up a dual PC system. The MV7+ allows for simultaneous XLR and USB output, which is a fantastic feature. I still highly recommend the MV7X; it’s an excellent value for the price. However, if you’re considering a dual PC setup for streaming, the MV7+ might be the better choice for dual output.
