Absolutely stunning! I had been hoping for this watch for Christmas. I’ve been using a $40 Timex Indiglo for years, but I was tired of having to replace the batteries every six months, which meant driving an hour and a half from our small town. The Ecodrive caught my attention because it balances both dressy and casual styles, and it never needs a battery as long as it gets regular light exposure. My husband surprised me with it for Christmas, and I couldn’t be happier! It glows in the dark if you charge the luminescent areas under a bright light before bedtime—I used a bright LED portable light to do this (see attached photo). While it’s a bit heavier than my previous watch, I got used to it after a few hours. I had some links removed to ensure a perfect fit. I also visited the Citizen website to find the instruction manual for setting my model, which was straightforward. I absolutely adore this watch and look forward to many years of use!

While it was a bit large at first, I spent $15 to have three links removed, and now it fits perfectly—providing a comfortable, breathable feel instead of a tight fit, and it stays in place on my wrist. Among the four Citizen Eco-Drive silver women’s watches with gold accents that we tested, this one stood out as the most attractive. It embodies a classic, subtle elegance. While it lacks numbering, the time is easy to read, and we particularly appreciate the day feature, which is quite rare. Compared to similar Citizen models that have hard-to-read dates, this one is much clearer. The detailing on the case is impressive and appears sturdy. The watch face features a delicate reflective circular pattern, reminiscent of a CD or record, highlighting its meticulous craftsmanship. I ordered this on Friday and received it today (Sunday). It met my expectations and was nicely packaged in the official Citizen box, complete with a registration and setting booklet. Setting the watch was a breeze using the crown, just like my previous Fossil watch with similar dials, and it started working right after I pushed the knob back in. The watch has a feminine and elegant appearance, yet I believe it’s sturdy enough to last. Plus, registering online grants a six-year warranty on Eco-drive watches!
It’s smaller than my old two-toned Fossil watch (both in face and band), but I can’t recall its measurements, and I haven’t seen any similar models lately (it was a Nordstrom sale find from the mid-90s!). The day-date feature can be a bit tricky to read, especially if you’re over 40, but that’s typical for a women’s watch! I would have loved a version in 32 or 34 mm, but this was my favorite style available. I nearly tried the men’s version, but it only came in a 40 mm face!
Overall, I’m extremely pleased with my purchase! The Eco-drive feature is a major plus, especially after years of needing battery replacements for my old Fossil. It feels great to have the time, day, and date at a glance without unlocking my phone! I included photos for size reference since it’s hard to judge wrist size. It fits a bit loosely, but I like it that way and won’t be removing any links. The bezel diameter is slightly larger than my size 9.5 index finger ring, and the included booklet is just a bit bigger than a standard post-it pad. Hope this helps!

The design and face size are perfect for my smaller wrist. I had to remove four links—two from each side of the band. I appreciate how the band closes securely without accidentally coming undone. The watch keeps time accurately.
However, I have a significant disappointment regarding the luminous hands and markers. Even after sitting in sunlight for over eight hours, the luminous hands only glow for about an hour, and the markers don’t glow at all. The luminous hands were a key reason I chose this watch, and given Citizen’s reputation for quality, I didn’t expect this problem. I’ve never experienced such weak luminosity, even in my less expensive watches.

I have purchased two of these watches as gifts over the last two years—one for my mom last year and another for a family member this year. The presentation is impressive, as expected from Citizen. The watch arrives in a stylish box with a hinged lid that has a satisfying resistance, keeping it securely closed until you’re ready to open it.
The watch itself is intricately designed and keeps excellent time. One of the models I bought features a striking two-tone silver and gold finish that really stands out when you open the box. I was new to Eco-Drive technology, but it seems to work well, and there are no visible solar panels that detract from the beauty of the dial. The only downside is that the Eco-Drive storage capacitor or battery is said to last between 15 to 25 years, but research indicates that it’s replaceable.
The watch comes with the time-set pin pulled, so it doesn’t run during transport. Once you press the pin in, it starts ticking.
Overall, these watches are very reasonably priced for the quality they offer and make fantastic gifts. You can’t go wrong with a Citizen timepiece.
