I recently picked up this Precisionist on sale, and I’m glad I did. It’s living up to its name, and I’m now using it as a benchmark for the accuracy of my other watches. The original leather strap felt a bit flimsy, so I replaced it with a stainless steel bracelet that complements the watch’s bold design. It looks fantastic! Being a Bulova, I’m confident it will last for many years.

First and foremost, everything you’ve heard about the movement of this watch is spot on; the second hand sweep is absolutely captivating. The only other timepiece that comes close is a Grand Seiko with a spring drive, one of the most sophisticated mechanical movements available, and even Bulova’s mecha-quartz operates at a frequency approximately 33% higher. It’s so fluid that if you hold it close to your ear in a quiet space, you can just about hear the rapid beats—it’s almost like having a tiny helicopter on your wrist.
I added this watch to my collection as my go-to dress piece. I wanted something elegant that complemented formal attire without being a diver’s watch. The price was a key factor since I wouldn’t be wearing it regularly. I sought a stainless steel piece with a leather strap, not necessarily automatic, yet with a distinctive character that set it apart from cheaper fashion watches. Bulova has a longstanding reputation in American watchmaking, and this Precisionist serves as a modern homage to the original Accutron Spaceview, which played a pivotal role during the 1960s Quartz Crisis.
Despite its 42mm diameter, the watch wears smaller, likely due to its quartz movement. The stainless steel build feels sturdy with excellent finishing, though it does attract fingerprints easily—definitely keep a microfiber cloth handy. The crystal is mineral, so it scratches, although not readily. The watch back is sealed rather than screw-down, making battery changes trickier and slightly affecting water resistance. This model features a black dial with a unique swirl pattern that from a distance appears more dark gray than pure black. The lume is quite faint, nearly nonexistent.
The overall quality is good, except for the strap. The factory black leather band is stiff and will require some breaking in. The simulated crocodile pattern feels coarse and lacks smoothness. For my occasional wear, the band suffices, but if you plan to use this watch daily, investing in a higher-quality strap, perhaps a leather NATO, would be wise.
At under $200, this Bulova offers an incredible value. It’s hard to find many dress watches that match this price point. So if you need a dress watch and want to avoid spending over a thousand dollars for something you might wear only a handful of times a year, this is the one for you. You won’t be disappointed.

I used it nearly every day, and the mecha-quartz movement is impressive. It resembles an automatic watch but is thinner, lighter, and more precise.

I have a passion for watches, especially Bulova. I currently own two others: a rugged sports chronograph and a Frank Lloyd Wright special edition, along with a super thin Rotary. I’ve always wanted a Precisionist, but it was usually beyond my budget. However, I recently found it on sale on Amazon and decided to go for it, and I’m so glad I did.
The quality is immediately apparent, and the sweeping second hand is truly captivating. The size is just right—not one of those oversized watches that seem to be in vogue these days. It boasts a classic appearance that is both simple and elegant.
I’ve always thought that another prominent brand featuring a sweeping second hand comes off as flashy and ostentatious, often worn by car salesmen. Personally, I find those watches to be rather gaudy, and even if they were affordable, I wouldn’t consider owning one.
What I love about this watch is its understated elegance; it looks expensive and sophisticated without being over-the-top. I enjoy changing my watches based on the occasion, but this one is likely to become my everyday choice.

Excellent value for the price! The strap does feel a bit flimsy, but that’s an easy fix. I’m really impressed with the smooth sweeping motion of the second hand—it’s more fluid than any mechanical watch I’ve used.

This watch ticks nearly all the boxes, with one minor issue that can be easily fixed with an aftermarket solution. I’ll touch on that shortcoming later, but first, I want to highlight the positives. Thankfully, this watch was not a previously handled item sold as “new” by Amazon, which I’ve unfortunately experienced too often. The movement is what truly makes this watch appealing to me, and I believe many others will feel the same. The smooth, sweeping motion of the seconds hand, attributed to the precision quartz movement, is captivating and mesmerizing. As someone who owns mechanical watches, I can confidently say they can’t compete with the stunning 16 beats per second of this seconds hand. This will definitely become one of my daily wear watches. However, I recommend replacing the watchband with an aftermarket option. I’ve paired mine with a Barton strap, which is both high quality and reasonably priced, plus it’s much more comfortable than the cheap-feeling “leather strap” that comes with the watch. The factory strap feels subpar and doesn’t do justice to this otherwise premium Bulova watch. Overall, I believe anyone who buys this watch will be pleased, but be ready to swap out the strap upon arrival and change the CR2016 batteries approximately every two years due to the quartz movement.

Beautiful watch, 100% authentic, with a mesmerizing movement.

This watch consistently draws compliments and exudes understated elegance. The craftsmanship on the face and hour markers is flawless. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the quality of the finishing is top-notch. The Precisionist movement is remarkable, featuring a smooth sweeping second hand and incredible accuracy. It truly lives up to the hype. I doubt I’ll ever choose a non-Precisionist quartz watch again.

This is a beautiful watch with excellent craftsmanship. The continuous movement of the second hand is a significant advantage over Precisionist models and much more enjoyable than the ticking second hand found in traditional quartz watches.
