I used each one for a week, but switching my belongings back and forth was a hassle. However, the effort was worthwhile because that’s how I discovered the Nomatic backpack.
Initially, I didn’t expect the Nomatic to be the one for me, especially after spending $394 on the Huckberry option, which I thought would be my favorite. But after just one week with the Nomatic, I struggled to switch to the next backpack. I had never been so excited about a bag before! I was determined to give each backpack a fair trial, but after experiencing the Nomatic, nothing else compared. I couldn’t wait to return to it.
By the end of my trial period, I boxed up all the backpacks and returned everything except the Nomatic. I’ve now been using it for six months, and I can’t express enough how much I love it. I often tell my wife just how much joy this backpack brings me. Perhaps it’s the contrast to the daily frustration I felt with my old one that makes me appreciate it so deeply.

This bag is ideal for my needs. The size is just right, and it features plenty of compartments and pockets that help keep everything organized and separated. I can fit more into this bag than my previous one, and it feels lighter since I can balance the load effectively.
However, I wasn’t a fan of the sternum strap. I’ve never used one before, and I found the left side to hang too loosely for my liking. Additionally, the straps would also hang loosely, which was bothersome.
To improve it, I made a couple of modifications that, frankly, should have been included at this price point. I sewed on some elastic straps to keep the loose straps snug. I’m not an expert sewer, but it took me just 15 minutes, and it turned out great (check out the pictures).
I also used wire cutters from my workshop to create a break in the sternum buckles, allowing me to remove them easily (I can put them back on if needed, though that’s unlikely). The result looks fantastic, and now the bag is absolutely perfect for me.
I love how it stands upright when set down. I highly recommend this bag and still give it 5 stars, despite the need for those modifications.
