Power and Efficiency

The Worx WG309 is equipped with an 8 Amp motor, providing consistent performance for a variety of cutting tasks. Users have reported that this pole saw efficiently cuts through branches up to 5 inches in diameter, making it suitable for both small and larger trees. The auto chain lubrication feature ensures that the chain operates smoothly, enhancing cutting efficiency and prolonging the tool’s lifespan.

Design and Ergonomics

Weighing in at just 10 pounds, the Worx WG309 is designed for maneuverability. Its compact size, combined with an adjustable pole that extends to 10 feet, allows users to reach high branches without the need for a ladder. However, it’s worth noting that some users found it a bit heavy when fully extended, which may lead to fatigue during prolonged use. Proper technique and strength are necessary, especially when cutting higher branches.

Ease of Use

One of the standout features of the WG309 is its tool-less installation, allowing users to quickly attach the pole and switch between the pole saw and a traditional chainsaw. Many users appreciated the straightforward assembly process, which takes only a few minutes. Additionally, the auto chain tension system prevents over-tightening, helping to maintain optimal performance.

Constructive Criticism

  1. Weight Considerations: Some users noted that the saw can become heavy when extended, particularly for those who may not have the upper body strength to manage it comfortably. This is especially relevant for tasks that require holding the saw at an angle for extended periods.
  2. Chain Management: A few users experienced issues with the chain getting stuck or needing readjustment. Although it’s not a widespread complaint, it is something to keep an eye on for potential first-time users.
  3. Setup Challenges: While most found assembly easy, a couple of users mentioned that setting up the trigger mechanism could be challenging. Careful attention to the instructions is advised for new users.

10 reviews for Effortless Tree Trimming: Review of the Worx WG309 Electric Pole Saw

    Dina Eubanks

As a 62-year-old woman, I can’t express enough how effective this saw has been for trimming branches from our six large maple trees and oak pine tree. I’ve used it several times, both with and without the pole, and it performs excellently. I mainly use it at a slight angle to the trees since it can be a bit heavy if tilted too much, but using it almost straight up to the side makes it easy to handle repeatedly. I’m just hoping it continues to work well when I pull it out next year. It cuts beautifully and is priced wonderfully. I’m a very satisfied customer so far.

Very helpful for pruning tree branches. I’m not sure if this is typical for this type, but the oil reservoir needs to be checked frequently. Overall, it’s good.

This tool effectively trims branches without the need for a ladder. The handle detaches, allowing it to be used as just a saw. It is somewhat heavy, but still manageable when the handle is fully extended.

I used it to prune some very large trees at home, and the branches were out of reach. It’s a powerful and sturdy saw. The best part is that you can use it without the extension. It’s very fast and makes quick cuts; I really liked it.

This product exceeded my expectations in every way. Upon arrival, I spent just about five minutes assembling it and filling the oil reservoir before getting to work. My first task was trimming high branches from a mesquite tree, also known as ironwood. With both poles attached and the pole closest to the chainsaw fully extended, I was able to reach branches a good 12 to 13 feet off the ground using my 6′ frame. It easily sliced through tough branches up to 5″ in diameter. While lifting the saw at the end of the pole does require some upper body strength, my Marine training in my 20s kept me fit, making it manageable. The cuts were quick and effortless; the weight of the saw alone allowed the blade to glide through the wood.

One tip: as you near the bottom of the branch, the weight can cause the uncut wood to tear before the saw completes the cut. This leaves an unsightly stump on the tree. To avoid this, make a cut about a foot away from the trunk before making the final cut. This way, the second cut will leave a clean finish since the branch won’t be pulling down on the stump. Given how quickly the saw goes through thick branches, this is easier than it sounds.

Also, be mindful of the saw’s weight as the branch falls. A bit of upper body strength is required, but it’s nothing that an average person in good shape can’t handle. I managed to cut down around 60 or 70 branches from various mesquite and palo verde trees before piling them up. I then converted the pole saw into a chainsaw, tightened the chain, and started cutting them into manageable lengths for disposal. The chainsaw is lightweight, nimble, and powerful. I have no complaints about its performance. Even in the 100-degree Arizona heat, I found the work enjoyable. I even decided to remove a dying palo verde tree outside my fence, and the chainsaw made quick work of the multiple trunks, some measuring about 10 inches in diameter, cutting through them in under ten seconds.

Throughout this process, the automatic oiler functioned perfectly, keeping the blade lubricated while only releasing a small amount of oil, which is standard for any properly maintained chainsaw.

In summary, if you’re considering a corded chainsaw, don’t hesitate—just click Buy Now. You won’t regret it!

However, I do have one downside to mention: the automatic chain tensioner on my saw didn’t work at all. It lacks a spring-loaded mechanism to extend the chain bar, which means it can’t automatically tighten the chain. While it prevents the chain bar from retracting, it will loosen as the chain stretches. I don’t think this warrants a star deduction, though; manually tightening the chain every 10 to 15 cuts kept everything running smoothly. Adjusting the chain is straightforward—just loosen the large orange knob holding the chain bar in place, hold the (unplugged!) saw by the chain bar with the motor hanging down, and the saw’s weight will pull the chain to the right tension. Then, with your free hand, tighten the orange knob again. It takes maybe ten seconds.

    P. G.

I have been very satisfied with all the Worx products I’ve used, and they are definitely worth the investment, especially with their excellent customer service. This company consistently produces durable and high-quality tools designed with user ergonomics in mind, and this tool is no exception. I’ve also used their leaf blower and trimmer. The Worx WG309 8 Amp 10″ Electric Pole Saw is easy to handle and straightforward to assemble, making it perfect for beginners like me who are new to tree pruning. It arrived ready to use right out of the box and was simple to clean afterward. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

A few important points to note:
The product can become a bit heavy when extended on the pole, especially when cutting branches that are out of reach. It’s crucial to clear the area below you, as your hands may tire while cutting, and the saw could drop if you aren’t careful. Make sure nothing is underneath, as you might not have time to lift your finger off the saw button before it falls. While this tool is user-friendly, it can also be dangerous if not used properly.

    Tricee

I appreciate this product for its relative ease of use. However, as someone who is 5’3″, I found it a bit uncomfortable using it on a ladder, even with the extension. I was able to detach the chainsaw and trim the limbs and branches within my reach. My son, who had never used a chainsaw before, also completed the job without any issues. The only downside was that the chain got stuck a few times; I’m not sure if the instructions were fully followed. Nevertheless, I managed to reattach the chain, and the chainsaw continues to work well.

  9. Rated 4 out of 5

    Andy

The quality is decent for the price. I really like it; it cuts well, but it becomes heavy to handle when extending beyond 10 degrees.

  10. Rated 5 out of 5

    Bob

This saw is most suitable for experienced chainsaw users. Adjusting the chain tension can be quite challenging, and using the saw becomes difficult, especially when extended on the pole—it feels very heavy. It requires significant strength, as it can quickly drain your energy. I wouldn’t recommend using it on extremely hot days. Setting up the trigger mechanism can be a two-person job, but it’s doable solo with caution. For the average person, lifting the saw to cut limbs is quite tough. If you’re just a casual user who hasn’t handled chainsaws before, I suggest hiring a professional instead. However, considering the price and quality, this saw offers great value, and I really appreciate its capabilities. It will definitely be a useful tool for a long time to come.
