This nailer provides an excellent blend of efficiency, ease of use, and power. In this review, we will explore its features, performance, and overall user satisfaction, providing a comprehensive look at why this tool is worth considering for your next project.

    Design and Build Quality

    Dimensions and Weight

Weighing in at 6.15 pounds and measuring 13.23 x 11.85 x 4.1 inches, the DEWALT DCN680B strikes a balance between portability and sturdiness. While some users have noted its slightly heavier feel, the overall build quality is robust and designed to withstand the rigors of frequent use.

    Aesthetics

The modern black and yellow color scheme is characteristic of the DEWALT brand, making it easy to spot in a crowded toolbox. The alloy steel construction adds to its durability, ensuring it can handle tough job site conditions.

    Features

    Battery Powered Convenience

One of the standout features of the DEWALT DCN680B is its battery-powered operation. This eliminates the need for gas, compressors, and hoses, streamlining the nailing process. It operates on DEWALT’s 20V MAX battery system, which is compatible with many other tools in the DEWALT lineup, making it a convenient choice for users who already own DEWALT batteries.

    Brushless Motor

The brushless motor significantly enhances runtime and durability, providing consistent power throughout use. Users have reported that the battery life is impressive, with the tool handling multiple projects without needing a recharge.

    Tool-Free Adjustments

The tool-free depth adjustment allows for precise countersinking of nails, ensuring a professional finish every time. The jam release feature is also tool-free, making it easy and quick to clear any nail jams that may occur during operation.

    Safety Features

Safety is a critical consideration when using power tools, and the DEWALT DCN680B does not disappoint. The low nail lockout feature prevents dry firing, which can leave unwanted marks on your work material. The adjustable belt hook offers flexibility in carrying the tool safely when not in use.

    Versatile Nail Capacity

This brad nailer is designed to accommodate 18 gauge brad nails ranging from 5/8” to 2-1/8”, making it versatile for a variety of applications, from installing trim to crafting furniture.

    Performance

    Efficiency and Power

Users have praised the DEWALT DCN680B for its impressive power and efficiency. Many reports highlight that it easily sinks 2-inch brads into various materials, including pine and maple, without any misfires or jams. This reliability is a significant improvement over some competitors, with users transitioning from brands like Makita noting a marked difference in performance.

    Ease of Use

The nailer is designed for both seasoned professionals and DIY novices, featuring an intuitive design that ensures user comfort. The sequential and contact actuation modes allow for flexibility depending on the task at hand. Users have mentioned that the tool feels safe and manageable, even for those less experienced with nail guns.

    Work Light

While the integrated multi-functional LED light is appreciated for illuminating workspaces, some users have noted that it casts a broader light rather than a focused beam. However, this minor drawback does not significantly detract from its overall functionality.

    User Experiences

    Positive Feedback

Feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing satisfaction in how much time the DEWALT DCN680B has saved them on their projects. The ability to use existing DEWALT batteries is a recurring theme in reviews, highlighting the tool’s convenience and value.

    Constructive Criticism

On the downside, some users have pointed out that the weight and bulkiness of the tool can be a factor during extended use. Others have experienced challenges with the safety mechanism, though these instances appear to be less common.

    Conclusion

The DEWALT DCN680B 20V MAX* XR® 18 GA Cordless Brad Nailer is an excellent investment for anyone looking to enhance their woodworking or home improvement projects. Its powerful performance, user-friendly design, and battery-powered convenience make it a top choice in the market. While there are minor criticisms regarding weight and work light focus, the pros far outweigh the cons.

In summary, the DEWALT DCN680B earns a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars for its exceptional performance, reliability, and ease of use. It is highly recommended for both DIY enthusiasts and professionals looking to streamline their tasks and achieve high-quality results.

Great value, delivered promptly, functions excellently!

This Brad nailer is excellent! It’s quite large and a bit heavy, but the Dewalt battery lasts a long time. It’s user-friendly and very durable.

I have no complaints about this trim gun; however, I haven’t had to use it for long periods. It definitely simplifies remodel jobs and small projects where you only need to drive a few nails.

It’s a DeWalt, and I have complete faith in the brand. It functions flawlessly.

As a loyal Makita user, I initially started with a Makita nailer. After dealing with numerous jams, misfires, and various issues, I decided to switch to Dewalt. What a transformation! This tool is a beast. It effortlessly sinks 2-inch brads without a single jam or nail failing to go all the way in. I’ve used it for everything from 5/8-inch projects to 2-inch tasks, and it handles it all flawlessly. Whether it’s pine shiplap or maple crown molding, it just works. The winding mechanism took a little getting used to compared to the Makita, but I adapted quickly. The bump fire feature is outstanding; it shoots as fast as I can bump it. If I had one minor complaint—and this is really nitpicking—it would be the work light that casts a broad beam from the battery area. I would prefer a more focused spotlight, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker. If you want a dependable nailer free from the hassle of jams or half-driven nails, this is the one for you.

This nailer has been a huge time-saver for all my home projects! It’s lightweight and compatible with the batteries I already use for my DeWalt drill. I used to struggle with a cheap nailer that had constant issues, forcing me to revert to using a hammer. When I began installing new flooring in our bedroom, I knew it was time to invest in a quality nailer, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. This nail gun is relatively easy to operate, very safe for a nail gun, and the nails are readily available at any hardware store. It significantly speeds up the process and boosts efficiency. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to save time and achieve better results on their projects!

I’ve been using this product for nearly a year, and it has definitely paid for itself. I’m not a professional—more of a casual DIY enthusiast—so I might not be the primary target audience. I chose this tool because of the brand’s reputation and because it was one of the few cordless options available on Amazon and elsewhere.

      Pros:

      • The battery life is impressive. Although I haven’t used it extensively, I haven’t needed to recharge it after using it for about three sheets of nails, and it shows no signs of losing power.
      • It’s powerful. While I can’t compare it directly to gas or corded nailers, it certainly feels robust.
      • Loading nails is straightforward. Unlike manual nail guns, this one has a side that slides open, making it easy to place nails. I’ve struggled with some brad nail/staple gun combos, especially when trying to load them in brad mode.

      Cons:

      • It’s heavy and bulky. This is where I’ve noticed some design flaws. There were several times I couldn’t disengage the safety feature to fire a nail. For instance, when reattaching the crown on a cabinet, the nailer wouldn’t fit into the tight space. Its large profile makes it challenging for corner nailing, like when working with crown molding or baseboards.
      • I couldn’t find an “offset” mode. Maybe this is an odd request, but it would be helpful to have an option to make the nail stick out slightly from the wood so I could bend it over afterward.
      • Inconsistent nail firing. This became apparent while I was in the attic, covering air vents. I experienced about 5-7 failed nailings out of every 10 attempts. I checked to see if I was out of nails, but there was still plenty left.
      • The “trigger reset” feature is a bit annoying. I’m not a firearms expert, but I learned about this safety mechanism during a course. It seems to contribute to the missed nails issue. You have to completely release the trigger before pulling it again; any slight pressure on the trigger—even if you think you’re not pressing it—prevents it from firing, even though it sounds like it’s launching a nail.

      Conclusion:
Am I glad I purchased it? Yes. Do I love it? Not quite. While the build quality is solid, these quirks might be typical for this type of tool, and perhaps reflect my inexperience as a first-time owner. Some products just have their own idiosyncrasies, regardless of the brand or price point, and this could be one of them. DeWalt has lived up to its claims and delivered a good product overall. However, personally, I’d rate it a 3/5. I gave it a 4/5 because I believe the shortcomings are more about my own quirks and lack of familiarity with what’s normal for this tool.

I purchased this for my husband to help with installing trim and baseboards around the house. It performs excellently and is much less intimidating compared to other options. I’m confident using it myself. I also love that it is compatible with the 20V batteries we already have for our other tools.
