JBL Tune 770NC Review: A Comprehensive Look at Adaptive Noise Cancelling Headphones

The JBL Tune 770NC headphones have quickly made a name for themselves in the competitive world of wireless audio, offering a compelling blend of features, sound quality, and affordability. This review delves into various aspects of the headphones, from their design and comfort to sound quality and functionality.

Design and Comfort

Lightweight and Ergonomic Build

Weighing in at just 232 grams (8.2 ounces), the JBL Tune 770NC headphones are remarkably lightweight, making them ideal for extended use. The over-ear design provides a snug fit, which enhances both comfort and passive noise isolation. The plastic material used in construction feels durable, adding to the longevity of the product. Users have reported that even during rigorous activities like gym workouts or long listening sessions, the headphones remain comfortable, though some have noted a slight tendency to slide down after prolonged use.

Control and Connectivity

With a straightforward control system located on the ear-cups, managing audio playback and calls becomes intuitive. The headphones are equipped with voice control compatibility for Google Assistant, Siri, and Amazon Alexa, allowing for hands-free management of music and calls. The Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity ensures a stable connection with a range of up to 10 meters, providing freedom of movement without the hassle of wires.

Sound Quality

JBL Pure Bass Sound

Renowned for their audio quality, JBL has equipped the Tune 770NC headphones with dynamic drivers that deliver the brand’s signature Pure Bass sound. Users have praised the clarity and neutrality of the sound profile, which stands in stark contrast to bass-heavy competitors. The headphones excel in reproducing a balanced audio spectrum, allowing listeners to enjoy music as it was intended. However, some users have noted that the soundstage feels a bit limited, lacking the expansive feel some may desire for an immersive listening experience.

Customization via JBL Headphones App

The free JBL Headphones app enhances the listening experience by allowing users to tailor the sound to their preferences. The app offers several pre-set EQ modes and lets you customize the EQ curve, delivering a personalized audio experience. This feature has garnered positive feedback, especially from users who enjoy fine-tuning their sound.

Noise Cancellation and Ambient Features

Adaptive Noise Cancelling

One of the standout features of the JBL Tune 770NC is its adaptive noise-cancelling technology. Users have reported that it effectively blocks out distractions, making it an ideal choice for studying, working, or just enjoying music in noisy environments. The Adaptive Noise Cancellation adjusts to your surroundings, providing a seamless listening experience.

Ambient Aware and TalkThru Modes

In addition to noise cancelling, the headphones also feature Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes. Ambient Aware allows users to remain aware of their environment without removing the headphones, which is particularly useful in situations where situational awareness is necessary. The TalkThru mode amplifies voices and reduces the volume of music, making it easy to communicate with others without taking off the headphones. Users have found these features to be exceptionally beneficial, especially in day-to-day use.

Battery Life and Charging

Impressive Longevity

The JBL Tune 770NC boasts an exceptional battery life of up to 70 hours on a single charge, making it one of the most reliable headphones in this regard. Users have reported going days between charges, which is particularly appealing for those who are always on the go. The fast charging feature, requiring just 2 hours for a full charge, adds to the convenience for users who may often forget to charge their devices.

Value for Money

Affordability Meets Quality

Priced competitively, especially during sales, the JBL Tune 770NC headphones offer excellent value for money. Users have highlighted their satisfaction with the sound quality, comfort, and features at a price point that is significantly lower than many premium competitors. Whether you’re an audiophile or a casual listener, these headphones provide a robust listening experience without breaking the bank.

Conclusion

In summary, the JBL Tune 770NC headphones are a well-rounded option for those seeking quality sound, effective noise cancellation, and user-friendly features. While they might not possess the same expansive soundstage or bass intensity as some higher-end models, their overall performance, comfort, and long battery life make them a standout choice in the wireless headphone market. Whether you’re commuting, working out, or just enjoying music at home, the JBL Tune 770NC is a solid investment for anyone looking for a high-quality listening experience.

These are amazing headphones, and the app takes them to the next level! I’ve unlocked their full potential. 🎧 They’re excellent!

I purchased these headphones on sale for $99, and I was hopeful that their sound quality would match the price. I’m pleased to say it absolutely does. The clarity, neutrality, and refined bass are impressive. I anticipated something akin to Beats headphones, with overwhelming bass and sharp highs, resulting in an unpleasant EQ curve. However, the JBL headphones deliver true fidelity and a natural sound. The only minor drawback is that the soundstage feels a bit confined, lacking a spacious soundscape.

A few points to mention: I use Tidal for music streaming in lossless/HiRes audio. To fully appreciate the quality, you must use the included aux cable. While the sound becomes noticeably more accurate and faithful, the bass may feel slightly diminished without the built-in amp. Nonetheless, achieving such neutrality and flatness in a hundred-dollar headphone is remarkable.

When using Bluetooth, the audio quality is obviously not HiRes or lossless, but there’s a significant boost in bass and treble, while the mids remain clear and natural. Overall, the sound is smooth and enjoyable right out of the box. I prefer not to adjust the EQ in the app because the sound is already perfectly balanced and high-quality.

Additionally, you can still activate the ANC feature while using the aux cable, which is a nice touch. However, I noticed that this can slightly alter the sound quality, enhancing the bass and treble while diminishing the midrange, resulting in a thinner sound. Therefore, I recommend using either Bluetooth or wired without powering on the headphones. The sound quality remains unaffected when using Bluetooth with ANC on or off. The noise-canceling effectively blocks about ninety percent of ambient noise, which works well for me—no complaints there.

The build quality is excellent, and they’re very comfortable, although they can get warm after extended use. I chose the blue color, which is subtle and sophisticated. I was surprised by their petite size, which I appreciate since I dislike bulky headphones. I’m glad I invested in them, as they truly deliver a refined audio experience and meet my expectations perfectly.

I grew weary of earbuds that offered poor sound quality and uncomfortable fits, so I invested in these headphones. For $80, they’re a fantastic deal with JBL’s legendary sound quality, an incredibly comfortable over-ear design, and outstanding battery life. The noise-cancelling is top-notch, and the Ambient Aware feature is a game-changer—I can easily watch TV with my wife while enjoying YouTube videos on my tablet. I treated myself to these for Christmas, and I’m really glad I did.

Excellent quality with an outstanding noise-canceling feature. The battery life is impressive; I can go days without needing to recharge. They are very comfortable to wear, and the price is exceptional for the sound quality!

  6. Rated 5 out of 5

Solid quality at a very competitive price.

I prefer these over competing brands because they come with a companion app that allows you to tweak the equalizer settings for audio, independent of your streaming content. While they aren’t the top choice for noise cancellation, their over-ear design provides a snug fit that enhances this feature. I use them at the gym, and they consistently last throughout my workouts. The battery life is exactly as promised.

As an Apple user, I was on the hunt for high-quality over-ear headphones with noise cancellation, but there was no way I was going to spend a fortune on the Apple models. I started my search and initially leaned towards some SRhythm off-brand headphones on Amazon. However, by the time I had the funds, those were sold out, so I continued browsing. I figured it would be wiser to choose a well-known brand that wouldn’t vanish from Amazon in a few years.

I had my eyes set on the Sony XM5s after reading rave reviews, but their high price tag was exactly what I was trying to avoid. Then I discovered JBL. This brand, once known primarily among a few friends, has become a staple for audio enthusiasts, making it an ideal choice. I compared it to similar models from Skullcandy and other brands in the same price range, but those didn’t offer anything better than passive noise cancellation.

The comparable Skullcandy model had inferior battery life, largely due to its excessive use of microphones for Active Noise Cancellation. At the time of my purchase, the Skullcandy was also slightly more expensive, which didn’t make much sense.

The noise cancellation on these JBL headphones is easily on par with the AirPod Pros I’ve used in the past. When I play music, I can’t hear anything outside my personal bubble. I’ve used these at work for two days straight without needing to recharge. They connect seamlessly to my phone, and the side buttons are very convenient. The audio quality is crystal clear, and I often prefer these over my car stereo. They truly perform beautifully.

The JBL app is fantastic, providing customization options that Apple typically restricts on non-Apple products. The various equalizer modes are impressive as well.

I do have two minor complaints. Firstly, the lowest noise cancellation setting boosts the outside microphone’s volume but completely mutes my music without pausing it. While I can hear someone talking, there’s no trace of the song I was listening to, which is a letdown compared to the AirPods’ transparency mode.

Secondly, the ear cups are a tad small for my ears; I’d say I have average-sized ears (elementary school kids would have certainly let me know if I had oversized ears!). Wearing them for extended periods causes discomfort in the cartilage on the sides and top of my ears, and a millimeter or two more in diameter would be a perfect fix.

Overall, I consider these headphones worthy of five stars due to their excellent value for the price. I absolutely love them and hope they last a long time. I’ll be back to update my review on their durability after using them for a while.

I was impressed with the quality of these headphones; they are excellent at noise cancellation. They also feature a transparency mode and a setting for conversations. I’ve been told the microphone is good, but the only downside is that you can’t use it for chatting on Xbox, even with the cable connected. Overall, they deliver very good audio quality, perfect bass, and a quick connection to my phone. Plus, they came with a pouch for added protection.

I really enjoy the sound quality and volume of this product. Occasionally, it tends to slide down after a few uses, even with adjustments, but that’s not a major issue for me. It’s comfortable to wear during workouts, whether I’m running or lifting, and it fits securely around my ears. Overall, I’m satisfied with this product considering the price.

As someone who’s quite particular about headphones, I really enjoy these, especially at the sale price. I’m a fan of my AirPods Pro and previously loved my Bose QuietComfort, but I wanted over-ear headphones with a cord for my PC, as well as Bluetooth for my phone. I didn’t want to break the bank, and the sound quality on these is impressive. They’re comfortable, and the noise cancellation is surprisingly good—comparable to the AirPods Pro, in my opinion, if they were over-ear. I do wish they had a bit more bass, but I appreciate the clarity of the audio. After tweaking the equalizer, I’m very pleased with them!
