I’m not a fan of bulky watches, so this one is perfect for me. It’s slim, sleek, and not overly thick. The battery life is fantastic—after using an Apple Watch, which is known for its poor battery, this has been a refreshing change. The functionality is excellent; I primarily use it for running and hiking, and it delivers precise metrics for heart rate, VO2 max, sleep quality, and more. If you want a more budget-friendly option than the high-end Garmin models, this watch is a great choice.

As one of Garmin’s most affordable watches, this product holds its own against others on the market. I’ve been using it for three months, and it truly offers everything I need: excellent sleep tracking, a long-lasting battery, calorie tracking, step counting, and the battery life is outstanding (up to 12 days!). It’s amazing—I definitely made the right choice switching from an Apple Watch to Garmin.

The battery life on this watch is truly remarkable! I can wear it daily for at least 10 days before even considering a charge. It stays connected to my phone, receiving texts and calls and sending notifications frequently, all while I wear it 24/7. I’ve had it for over a month and have only charged it three times, including the initial charge upon receiving it. To be fair, it arrived with a decent charge, so I was just topping it off. I did extensive research on smartwatches when I began my fitness journey, and Garmin consistently came out on top. While the features on the Vivoactive aren’t as advanced as some other Garmin models, I don’t need anything too extreme. I simply want to track my cardio, check the time, count my steps, and monitor my sleep, and this watch does all that and more. The Garmin Connect app is fantastic, offering plenty of motivation and tracking tools. I even hiked the Great Wall of China last week! Plus, I was able to customize the watch face to my liking. Although many claim it’s waterproof, I haven’t tested that myself due to past experiences with so-called “waterproof” products, so I take it off while showering. I appreciate the ability to select specific exercises for more accurate calorie tracking. On top of all these features, the watch is aesthetically pleasing—not too big, not too small. I would definitely buy this watch again. It may be pricier than a Samsung or Apple watch, but the battery life alone makes it worth it. It’s packed with functionality, and I truly love this watch.

The Vivoactive 5 is a significant improvement over the 4S, which struggled with battery life after three years of daily use.

Pros: It features a larger display, quicker input response, and vibrant colors. The wristband is comfortable, lightweight, and stylish. There’s a wide selection of watch faces and useful apps, and customizing the screens is straightforward with excellent readability. The battery life has been impressive so far.

Cons: The two buttons could be more responsive. The original letters on the opening screen have a comic book style. Some third-party watch faces offer limited customization options. The manual could be better, but I’m still getting the hang of the watch’s features.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the Vivoactive 5 and happy with my purchase.

I’ve always appreciated the quality of Garmin products, so when I set out to find a new smartwatch, I compared Garmin’s innovative features with similar models. The Garmin Vívoactive 5 turned out to be exactly what I was looking for at a great price. Here are some of the features I value the most:

    • Impressive battery life lasting several days
    • Sleek and stylish design
    • Ability to select a watch face that suits my needs
    • Bright, colorful, and easy-to-read text and data
    • Excellent phone app for tracking my health and fitness
    • Sleep Score and Sleep Coach features are incredibly helpful
    • Body Battery, Stress, and Heart Rate monitors are advantageous
    • Customization is simple with a drag-and-drop interface
    • Unmatched Garmin quality and reliability

After several years, my Vivoactive 3 watch stopped working. It wouldn’t charge, but I later figured out it just needed some cleaning at the connection point. However, the battery life was poor, so I decided to upgrade to the Vivoactive 5. I really appreciate the new features on this watch. The Steps function seems to be more accurate, and I’m particularly intrigued by the Body Battery feature, which wasn’t available on the Vivoactive 3. It acts like an energy meter for my body, accurately reflecting my energy levels as they fluctuate throughout the day. The sleep score feature has also been eye-opening; I’ve realized that I don’t sleep well, which is something I need to address. The standard features like heart rate monitoring, stress tracking, and intensity minutes perform well too. This model also includes Pulse Ox and Health Snapshot capabilities. It’s slightly smaller and lighter than the Vivoactive 3, which I appreciate. Although I’m not super athletic (I’m 68), I find that I’m gaining a lot of valuable insights from the watch. There are many more features I haven’t even touched on. Overall, it has been a great purchase for me.

I decided to upgrade from my Fitbit to a device that offers a longer battery life and syncs with my phone without needing the app open all the time. The Garmin watch seemed like the perfect solution. It might be a bit more advanced than I actually need, but I’m really pleased with the features it offers.

When the watch arrived, the setup process was a breeze. It looks fantastic (not overly large), operates smoothly (very user-friendly), tracks sleep effectively, and the touchscreen is a significant improvement over my old Fitbit. I haven’t had it long enough to evaluate the scratch resistance of the screen yet.

After wearing it for a couple of weeks, a vital part of the watch band fell off (see the attached picture). Initially, I was quite disappointed and a bit frustrated, but Amazon quickly sent me a replacement, which arrived just two days after I reached out. I also ordered some extra bands to keep on hand for any future issues.

I’m excited to use this watch to help me get back into running next summer, especially with its built-in coaching feature. I really believe you won’t find a better option for the price (and I didn’t even get it on sale—ha).
