The only issue I’ve noticed is the velocity sensitivity (the pressure needed for a louder sound), but that can be easily adjusted with a software download.
The keys are full-sized and incredibly springy, surpassing any 88-key keyboard I’ve tried.
The pads are perfectly responsive and just the right size, providing a satisfying touch (unlike my previous Novation controller).
The knobs, wheels, and overall build feel sturdy and high-quality.
I would have guessed this keyboard costs around $400. It’s a must-have for everyone’s desk.

This keyboard is amazing! I’ve been using it for about a month now, and I wanted to share my experience. Just to give you some background, I’ve dabbled in piano for a while and was using a really old Casio keyboard. Now, as a junior in high school aspiring to be a music teacher, I wanted to elevate both my skills and my instrument, and this keyboard has been a great choice.
Pros:
I came across several reviews claiming the keys are too stiff, but I have to disagree. I actually love the weight of the keys; while they differ from acoustic piano keys, they’re still excellent for an electronic keyboard. Transitioning between this and a real piano has been seamless for me. Also, some reviews mentioned that the drum pads aren’t the best quality, but while they may not be perfect, they’re definitely adequate. I’ve found it easy to create drum tracks with them, and as a beginner using an electronic drum pad for the first time, I’ve enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. Yes, they occasionally double trigger, but it’s not as frequent as some reviews suggest.
Cons:
The velocity issues that many people have mentioned are indeed present. Using the V61 editor helps quite a bit, but I still encounter the occasional stray high-velocity note at the most inconvenient times. Thankfully, I’ve been using it with GarageBand, which allows me to adjust the velocity settings even lower, significantly enhancing my experience. Not all DAWs have this feature, though, and without it, the velocity could be quite frustrating. I’d say my enjoyment of this keyboard would be drastically reduced without the ability to optimize the velocity like GarageBand lets me. Additionally, I’ve had trouble figuring out how to assign the knobs and buttons to parameters. I’ve searched the manual and looked for tutorials online with no luck. It seems like it might not be compatible with GarageBand, which is surprising since it’s such a popular beginner DAW. Overall, I’ve had a great experience with this keyboard, but I’m curious to see how things will go once I upgrade my setup.

I’m using this keyboard with my Windows 10 laptop, connected via USB, and running PreSonus Studio One Artist DAW. The initial plugin and setup in the DAW were straightforward, and I got sound quickly. The software took a bit longer to set up, but since the firmware was already up to date, I didn’t have to do anything there. I mainly used the Editor software, which, while not difficult, has a somewhat awkward organization. Once I got the hang of it, I adjusted the key velocity, settling on a setting of 2 for now.
There are eight velocity options, which essentially control how the keys respond when pressed. The keyboard’s springs have a higher tension compared to standard piano keys and allow for more travel when depressed, which may slow down fast playing a bit. One user suggested modifying it by adding a stop under the keys to limit their travel, which I think is a solid idea—maybe using a piece of wood or metal with a felt strip to create a stop right after the note is triggered. I still need to explore whether there’s an aftertouch feature with this keyboard.
As for the modulation and pitch wheels, they function reasonably well, although their range is narrower than those on my Novation synth, and they are physically smaller. I got used to them fairly quickly, and they respond smoothly enough.
The knobs and pads will require more time to explore. By default, the pads trigger bass notes in a VST, while the knobs currently don’t do anything, so I’ll need to utilize the Midi Learn feature in the DAW to assign functions to them. I’ll provide an update once I spend more time with it, but for now, I think it offers good value for its price, especially since I prefer the full-sized keys over the smaller ones I had to return.
Update: I figured out how to assign the knobs and buttons in PreSonus DAW using the Midi Learn function, and it worked well. Alesis informed me that the Mini Grand and other plugins come with the ProTools software if installed, which is why I don’t see those downloads since I’m not using it. That’s not an issue for me, as I have similar options in my DAW. After playing with the keyboard for an hour yesterday, I’m getting accustomed to its feel. It’s a solid keyboard for someone like me who isn’t a professional player. If I were, I might be more particular and consider investing in a higher-end model, but since guitar is my primary instrument, I’m satisfied with this one.

Before purchasing this controller, I read a lot of reviews and felt a bit hesitant, but ultimately decided to go for it. Considering the price, I was prepared to accept any minor issues. After a few days of use, I couldn’t be happier! It took me just 10 minutes to set it up with my Mac and start using GarageBand. I don’t find it to be poorly made at all; it has a solid feel and resembles a “real” keyboard. The full-size keys are comfortable and have just the right amount of tension. I quickly got accustomed to it. It’s incredibly expressive; when I play it like a piano, I can convey all the emotions I want. Whether I strike the keys hard or play softly, it sounds authentic. Plus, it’s a fantastic MIDI recording tool to add to my collection. Having played piano for most of my life and owned various keyboards, including a piano and a microKorg synth, I give this controller two thumbs up!
