After extensive research on this watch, I decided to take the plunge, and I’m quite impressed. As a long-time fan of Casio, I was intrigued by the combination of Atomic timekeeping and solar power. The design is a fantastic nod to the original 1983 Casio G-Shock, infused with a modern flair. I particularly like the red line around the watch, though I’ve noticed that many others aren’t fond of it. If you prefer a version without the red line, like the all-black negative display model, be prepared to pay nearly an extra $100, which seems steep for just a color change. However, this watch truly offers great value; it’s rugged and waterproof up to 200 meters.
I live about an hour from Toronto, Canada, and I’ve had no trouble receiving the Atomic clock signal from Boulder, Colorado, which is impressive given the distance. The watch syncs six times a day, starting at midnight and attempts to connect every hour until it successfully receives a signal. Once it does, it stops trying. It updates once a night and is remarkably accurate. While it doesn’t always sync, it succeeds about 80% of the time. I’ve found that the best method for syncing is to leave it on a windowsill overnight; manual syncing attempts have not worked for me, but I’m not too concerned given its reliable automatic syncing.
Overall, I’m thrilled with this watch. The quality meets the high standards expected from a G-Shock. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who appreciates durable, high-quality watches with precision. If you love the design but don’t care about the Atomic or solar features, consider the G-6500E-1 model, which is about half the price and lacks the red line. Ultimately, it depends on what you want in a watch, but in my view, this model is worth the extra investment due to its impressive features.

I’ve wanted a Casio G-Shock DW5600 for a long time, but after considering the extra features of the Casio G-Shock GWM5610, I decided to invest a little more. My only previous G-Shock experience has been excellent with a DW6900, which I’ve had for about 5 years and use as my everyday, tough-duty watch. The instruction booklet was quite helpful in getting me acquainted with the functions and settings, though I may need to refer back to it for certain details. Setting it up to my preferences was quick and straightforward, and soon enough, I was enjoying this digital watch.
The black resin band fits comfortably and secures easily with a polished silver buckle. Although the face is described in larger dimensions, it looks approximately 40mm on my 6-7/8″ wrist. It’s relatively lightweight and generally comfortable to wear. The backlight is exceptional, surpassing any I’ve seen on other Casio models. All functions work flawlessly, and the solar power and atomic timekeeping features are impressive, justifying the higher price compared to the DW5600. I’ve only had mine for a few days, so I can’t yet speak to its long-term durability, but I have no doubt about its ruggedness and ability to handle whatever I throw at it. I love the look and display, and my expectations have definitely been exceeded.
Now, I think I’ll have to get a DW5600 as a classic companion to alternate with my GWM5610.

I received this watch in the mail today, and it fits perfectly on my wrist. The tough solar feature means I never have to worry about replacing the battery. It resembles my DW5600E-1V, but I actually prefer the face of this one—it’s more interesting and features a nice red line around the edge.
Update: One year later, and I’m still impressed. I got this watch on June 5, 2015, and it works just as well today. I wear it for work, swimming, biking, and even cutting the lawn. This watch is ideal for anyone! Thanks, Amazon!
Update: June 5, 2017—I’ve now had this watch for two years, and I’ve become quite the G-Shock collector! I’ve been wearing G-Shocks for nearly 34 years and currently own 35 G-Shock watches and 5 ProTrek watches. That includes 2 Rangeman G-Shocks, the GWX 56-1BJF King G-Shock, the GSTEEL with a smoke dial, and the Frogman GWF 1000-1, among others.
I use this watch at the gym and wear it at night while watching TV. It fits my 7-inch wrist very comfortably and is incredibly durable. If I had to choose just one watch, it would be the Rangeman G-Shock, as it’s incredibly versatile. But this one is my second favorite. If you prefer a smaller G-Shock, this is perfect. Trust me as a collector—this watch is tough, reliable, and you won’t find a better digital watch for the price.
It closely resembles the first G-Shock released in 1983. The solar atomic GWM5610-1 features world time, a countdown timer, and a stopwatch. The best part? You set it once and never have to adjust it again, just like all Casio G-Shock solar atomic watches. Enjoy this watch or any other G-Shock you buy; the best watch is the one that suits your style.
Update: Saturday, September 9, 2017—I bought another GWM5610-1 G-Shock for $90 on Amazon, bringing my total to two. Now I have 37 G-Shocks and 7 Casio ProTrek watches. I love this model so much; it reminds me of the original DW500 G-Shock I had back in 1983. This watch is durable, comfortable, and lightweight on the wrist. Set it once, and you won’t have to set it again. Out of all my G-Shocks, this is my second favorite after the Rangeman. The battery was at medium when I received it, but after just one day by a window on a cloudy day, it charged to high and has stayed there since. Both the time setting and atomic sync function perfectly every day, keeping time identical to my cell phone. It’s durable, precise, and self-syncing—definitely the best digital watch I’ve ever owned.
