Engineered to withstand extreme conditions, the G-Shock MTGM900DA-8CR offers an impressive 200-meter water resistance. I was able to purchase a G-SHOCK that I used to have, and I’m really happy with it. I’m currently using a repaired strap, and it’s easy to use. If it breaks again, I would definitely want to buy it again.

I purchased this from VirVenture, and I must say, they were absolutely perfect throughout the process. During my purchase, the price dropped from €160 to €114.90, which was a bit disappointing, but the seller promptly refunded the difference. I requested that the watch be securely placed in my mailbox rather than left outside, and they fulfilled this request flawlessly!
As for the watch itself, I own a solar G-Shock, and it remains in excellent condition and functions perfectly despite its age. The durability of Casio is truly impressive. However, I do wish I had chosen a model that, while I like it, features a full resin design that feels less premium to me. Since the watch is built to last forever, I’d love to treat myself to another solar Casio, but one that feels more upscale—without unnecessary features like a compass or altimeter. Just a classic Casio design with digital display, alarms, auto-light, radio-controlled timekeeping, a 1-hour countdown timer, and a 1/100-second chronograph. The hourly chime is essential for me.
The weight of the watch is noticeable, giving it a solid feel. The bracelet required some adjustment, but once that was done, it became almost forgettable to wear. You don’t need to be a bodybuilder to wear this magnificent watch with style; it belongs to the G-Shock family while respecting standard proportions.
This watch is truly a gem. I’ve seen models last over 20 years, and none seemed to show signs of aging. I believe this will be my last watch, and I couldn’t be happier with it. Of course, tastes vary, but I personally think the quality and beauty of this watch justified its original price of €160, and I was lucky to get it for €114!
This is a must-have from Casio. It’s stunning, and I would recommend it even at a price higher than €160, as you would find it more expensive elsewhere! And I cannot stress enough how perfect this seller is.
As of May 2024, this watch is still a marvel.

After two months of use, I am still extremely happy with my purchase! The main features that attracted me to this watch were its Atomic and Solar capabilities.
Just to clarify, there are two models: the MTGM900DA (around $145) and the MTG900DA (about $95). The MTGM is the newer model that replaces the Time Memory function with a Timer, which I find more useful. Time Memory is great for tracking specific events like when you clock in or take medication, but I prefer having a Timer.
The Atomic Time calibration has been flawless, automatically syncing every night. As for the Solar battery, I just leave it by the window occasionally, and it stays fully charged.
In terms of weight and appearance, it’s substantial and a bit bulky. At 5’6″ and 147 lbs, I appreciate the weight; it makes me feel like I’m wearing something of quality. The shiny stainless steel bezel looks impressive and definitely doesn’t come off as cheap. It can be worn as both a dress and sport watch, although I wouldn’t recommend it for construction work, as it could get scratched.
Adjusting the band was easy; I removed four links using a jeweler’s screwdriver, but you can also take it to a jeweler for a small fee. The stainless steel band is durable, and a replacement costs around $40 on Amazon. To prolong the life of the closure mechanism, I suggest pushing open the latch and inserting the prong before letting the latch go, as this will minimize wear on the closure prong.
Regarding World Time, I frequently travel to the Dominican Republic, where they don’t observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), and the watch doesn’t have a city code for it. I can manually adjust the hour and disable the Receiving function to keep it from reverting to my home city’s time, or I can set it to Santiago, Chile (SCL) and turn off DST.
A few downsides:
Overall, I’m very pleased with this watch after trying numerous others throughout my life. I just hope it continues to perform well!
Addendum after 8 months: Still great! I love it. I initially thought DST was automatic, but it has to be set to ‘on’ or ‘auto.’ For synchronization, it doesn’t need to be by a window; I leave it on my kitchen table, about 15 feet away, and it works just fine.
Addendum after 1 year: The DST does work on ‘auto’ setting. Just set it to ‘auto,’ and it switches automatically. It syncs even while I’m in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic).
Addendum after 2 years: I must really love this watch, as I’m back after two years of use. It’s still going strong with no issues. The battery remains fully charged, and there are no water leaks. 😊
Addendum after 8 years: I love this watch so much that I keep updating this review! I still haven’t replaced the battery, and it remains fully charged. While it’s supposed to last about ten years, we’ll see. Everything works perfectly: world time, atomic time correction, and solar recharging. I’ve taken this watch overseas, and it functions flawlessly. At 63 years old, I’ve owned many watches from Bulova in 7th grade to fancy Wittnauer models, but this one is the best in terms of functionality. I don’t need a watch to impress anyone; this is the perfect care-free timepiece for me.

I was thrilled to order this watch as a replacement for my Apple Watch Series 5, which barely lasted 24 hours before needing a recharge. This new watch has exceeded my expectations in every way! First off, it’s incredibly durable—I’m the type of person who really puts products to the test, and let’s just say my dad always joked that I could ruin anything!
I’m also not a fan of rechargeable batteries since they tend to lose efficiency over time. This watch has a clear and readable face, packed with functions that I probably won’t even use. Plus, it looks great, making it versatile for both work and outings!
The only downside is that when I tried to register it, I was told to return the one I bought from Amazon and purchase from a different retailer. Casio’s website lists it for $170, but I snagged a brand new one for about $94 on Amazon! I expressed my frustration to Casio about their policy and decided to return the watch, warning others about their poor customer service. I’d consider buying it as a gift, but just be aware that you can’t register for the warranty, even if the packaging is sealed. Overall, Casio really needs to improve their customer service!

After losing a bidding war on an older model of this watch, I researched its newer version and decided it was the Casio I wanted. I visited a local store to check it out and was very impressed.
I already own the basic G-Shock DW5600, which I bought on Amazon a year ago to replace an old DW-5600 that finally gave out after 15 years of heavy use. This new model is my fourth G-Shock in 40 years. The first one lasted just a year before I tried to break it intentionally, which was surprisingly difficult until I used a 5lb. ballpeen hammer on a concrete slab.
Impressed with its durability, I quickly bought another that lasted 15 to 20 years. I was drawn to the MTG900 for its dressier appearance for non-work occasions, as well as its atomic timekeeping and solar functions. I had a cheap solar Timex that failed after just a year, so I was thrilled to find this MTG900, which has everything I want—solar, atomic, and a classy look that promises longevity.
Don’t tell Amazon, but I got an incredible deal! I paid less for this watch than I did for that cheap Timex, using a small gift card balance and a few Amazon special offers.
I did read some negative reviews mentioning issues like the tiny, unreadable manual. But all Casio manuals are like that; you can easily find a PDF on their website. Some reviewers noted that the watch wasn’t fully charged upon arrival, but mine was fine and charging it near a window is simple enough. Others complained about the flimsy box; while I agree it wasn’t as nice as my previous Casio’s, I didn’t buy it for the packaging.
There were also comments about the difficulty in understanding the settings. I mainly care about accurate timekeeping initially, and I’ll learn the details over time, just as I did with the DW5600. A quick Google search will provide plenty of resources on its functions.
Many reviewers mentioned that the band was too large out of the box, and I agree that adjustments are necessary. There’s a video that explains how to do this. While it was a hassle, it’s a one-time effort. I already had a tool from switching out the DW5600 band, which made removing links much easier.
To sum it up, I really like this watch because it’s comfortable to wear, the band doesn’t pinch my skin like other metal bands, it looks better than the DW5600, it’s easy to read (which my aging eyes appreciate), and the price was right. Honestly, even if I had paid full price, I would still be happy. If you’re looking for a stylish watch that can take some abuse, you can’t go wrong with this one!

I had my eye on this watch ever since I regrettably sold my G510 last year, which I owned for almost 20 years without any issues. This MTG model has also been around for 20 years but received an update with a new module about seven years ago. At 46mm wide and 16mm thick, it’s a bit chunky, yet the stainless steel bracelet version fits comfortably and wears smaller than expected. It boasts excellent features like multiband 6 and tough solar technology, along with a clean display featuring large numbers, stopwatch, timer, alarms, and more. While the links connecting the case and bracelet seem mismatched in pictures, they look fine in person. Many prefer the square models, but I find this one to be a superior choice with similar features to the GW5610, and it’s more affordable too.
One downside is that this model doesn’t appear to be available in the UK, so I had to purchase it from Amazon US. For some reason, budget G-Shocks in the US come in flimsy cardboard boxes and mine was shipped in a plastic bag for the 4,000-mile journey. It arrived a bit battered, though it’s in better shape than others I’ve received. Thankfully, being a G-Shock, it can handle a bit of wear and tear, but I would be cautious about ordering a traditional watch from the US.
Overall, this digital watch is fantastic and comes highly recommended. I’m not sure how much longer it will be in production, so I suggest grabbing one while you can.
