Update: I added olive oil to the clay and was able to completely redo both sides. I ended up tossing the rest of the kit, so I couldn’t smooth the clay as well as before, but it’s going to dry and crack anyway, so it is what it is. At least the lettering is gone! It’s not as nice as it could have been had I done it differently, but it’ll still make a cute keepsake. I wish my little man could stay little forever 🥹
The frame is lovely, and the prints turned out adorable. The clay is easy to work with, but it cracks quite a bit. The included lettering is absolutely terrible, so I strongly recommend not using it; just write on it with paint or a fine point marker instead! I really wish I hadn’t used the letters because they pretty much ruined the whole thing, but it’s too late now. I’m pretty disappointed about that, to be honest. Overall, it will still serve as a cute keepsake, and it was only $20. Just remember: avoid using the letters, and it’ll be perfect!

Since my daughter was tiny and wore preemie clothes, it might be best for most babies to use just one hand or one foot for each clay piece. The set includes a small rolling pin to flatten the clay, along with plastic cutouts for the wording.

We are absolutely thrilled! When we had our first daughter 2.5 years ago, we tried various brands, and this set was by far the best. The clay is wonderfully soft, requiring only gentle pressure to create a beautiful imprint. If the imprint doesn’t turn out right, you can easily knead the clay again and try again. Since newborns have a grasp reflex, it’s common to need more than one attempt. Other brands tended to set too quickly, making it more challenging to get a good impression. We loved this imprint set so much that we’ve ordered it four times! Most recently, we used it as a Christmas gift featuring handprints from both of our children (see picture). Our eldest was 2.5 years old at the time, and her hand fit perfectly.
A quick tip: it’s best to do this while the baby is asleep, especially within the first two weeks, as they tend to sleep deeply during this period.

How It Works (Brief Guide from Personal Experience):
The clay comes in two separate bags, so if the baby wakes up after one impression, you can easily do the second one later. Simply knead the clay and flatten it. A small wooden roller is included to help press the clay into the cutout; although it’s slightly shorter than the width of the cutout, it still works well. Use a dry spoon to smooth out any uneven spots. Then, gently press the baby’s hand or foot into the clay (be careful to ensure fingers and toes are fully imprinted). If the clay cracks during the imprinting or in the initial drying minutes, just dampen your finger and lightly rub over the crack. You can also stamp names, ages, or other details into the clay; everything you need is included in the set, though I recommend preparing the letters and numbers in advance.
The clay takes about 24 hours to dry, but I suggest leaving it for a bit longer to ensure it’s completely dry. We put ours in the frame after two days, only to notice some moisture on the glass later.
