This is the third home ice cream maker I’ve tried in my life, and finally, I’ve found a winner! This machine is incredible! The chocolate hazelnut gelato I made, using skim milk and sweetened with allulose, turned out low-calorie yet deliciously creamy. I don’t know how it achieves such creaminess with skim milk, but it does! Using a bit of half and half makes it even better. The pint I whipped up tonight was just 315 calories for the entire thing, and it has everything I want. I’m not a fan of most non-sugar sweeteners and prefer to avoid excess fat and sugar. Here’s why the Creami stands out compared to my previous ice cream makers:
The only notable downsides are that you have to wait 24 hours for a pint to freeze before making ice cream, and the machine is quite noisy. The sound is loud and changes in unsettling ways as the blade moves, which initially made me worry something might break. However, I’m getting used to it, and those strange noises are just part of the experience. The noise is a small price to pay for such fantastic ice cream!
If you’ve tried an ice cream maker before and found it frustrating, give this one a shot. You won’t regret it!

I was convinced by the online videos and decided to purchase the Ninja Creami for making high-protein ice cream. I honestly didn’t expect to use it as much as I do! As shown in the video, I keep the plastic on to protect my new favorite gadget!

I am thoroughly impressed with the Ninja Creami! Previously, I owned a traditional ice cream maker that required freezing the bowl, and honestly, it never worked well for me—constant scraping of the sides and it took up too much space in my freezer. After seeing the Ninja Creami on YouTube, I decided to give it a try. I just made my first pints of frozen yogurt, and they turned out AMAZING! As an experienced cook, I’m having a lot of fun creating my own recipes for gelato, ice cream, custard, and frozen yogurt.
The Creami is easy to use, and cleaning the paddle and lid is a breeze—those are the only parts that need washing after use, along with the pint jar when you’re finished with your treat. It’s definitely not a messy machine at all! I’ve read some reviews mentioning that it’s too loud, but I haven’t experienced that; it sounds just like a blender. I was prepared for a noisy machine, but it’s no louder than a regular kitchen blender. The machine remains very stable without any vibrations while the paddle rotates—truly rock solid.
So far, I’ve made chocolate frozen yogurt, pineapple frozen yogurt, coconut ice cream, and maple vanilla cinnamon custard ice cream, all based on my own recipes, and they are incredibly delicious and creamy. A tip: consider getting extra pint containers—spend an hour making different mixes, and then you can freeze them in bulk to always have a ready-to-go container for the machine. I can already tell this will become a staple appliance in my kitchen! A-plus, highly recommend!
UPDATE: The more I use this machine, the more I adore it! Everyone who tries my frozen creations insists they are the best they’ve ever tasted. I’m having an absolute blast experimenting with new and unique flavors… so far, I’ve created Orange Creamsicle, Cafe au Lait frozen yogurt, Basil-infused Lemon sherbet, Black Licorice gelato, Mocha Tofutti, Mint & Dark Chocolate Chip frozen yogurt, Honey Blueberry “tofutti” gelato, Balsamic Mixed Berry frozen yogurt, Pumpkin Spice custard, Lemon Cheesecake gelato, Strawberry Shortcake frozen yogurt, Black Cherry Pie gelato, and Lavender-infused Honey Strawberry gelato.
One review claims you can only use bananas and oranges for sorbet with the Creami, but that’s FALSE! You can use any fruit you want—just remember to blend the fruit with your base. The Creami cannot break up large chunks of solid frozen fruit. You can use fresh fruit in the base or cook it down with sweetener on the stove if you prefer. Either way, blending it with your base before freezing is essential.
I’ve also had inquiries about whether cream cheese is necessary for every recipe. The answer is NO! You can easily take a regular sorbet fruit base and add a small amount of milk, plant-based milk, silken tofu, half & half, yogurt, or cream cheese to create a creamy sherbet/ice cream/gelato/tofutti/frozen yogurt. Silken tofu results in an especially creamy texture, and I often add a chunk or two to my recipes. Additionally, a tablespoon or two of instant pudding mix—regular or sugar-free—works well too. I mix my ingredients in my Nutribullet blender, marking the pint level on the blending cup with a sharpie, then adding ingredients up to that line and blending. This method lets me eyeball my ingredients to my taste. I try to control sugar in my cooking, so I use just enough to lightly sweeten. You can substitute white sugar with honey, agave syrup, brown rice syrup, maple syrup, sweetened condensed milk, or brown sugar. The flavor possibilities are endless. Seriously, this machine produces some of the best gelato, ice cream, and frozen yogurt I’ve ever tasted!

We’ve tried several recipes for making ice cream with my daughter, and it’s been completely safe. The machine should come with a set of containers for making multiple flavors.

I absolutely love this machine! It’s roughly the same size as our Ninja large coffee maker. We use it to create lower-calorie, high-protein alternatives to store-bought ice cream, and it works wonderfully for that purpose. It does require some experimentation with flavors, but there are plenty of YouTube videos featuring recipes and tips. It also makes traditional ice cream and comes with a helpful recipe book.
One thing to note is that the machine is quite powerful, which means it’s a bit loud. When we use it, we sometimes step into another room. While this isn’t a major issue, it might be something to consider if you’re sensitive to noise. Additionally, it’s crucial to clean the blade, container, and lid after each use to prevent bacteria growth. We handle this easily by washing them by hand or in the dishwasher.
Overall, it’s a fantastic little machine that requires some maintenance, but that maintenance is straightforward and absolutely worth it for the convenience of making ice cream at home. I would definitely recommend it!
