This tool is marketed as 20v for the US market, but it works perfectly with standard 18v Dewalt XR batteries. While these aren’t precision cutters, they excel at tasks where exact measurements aren’t critical. The blade can be mounted in two different positions, which is useful for tight spaces. The bright LED light is a significant bonus as well.
As with any saw of this nature, be cautious—if the blade catches, the saw can jump. Using protective gloves and eye protection is advisable; the wait times at the emergency room are long enough, so it’s best to avoid any unnecessary injuries.

The DEWALT 20V MAX Reciprocating Saw is an impressive tool for challenging cutting tasks. It features a variable speed trigger with an impressive rate of 3,000 strokes per minute, making it highly controllable and efficient. Its lightweight yet robust design makes it ideal for both DIY projects and professional use. Just remember, it’s sold as a bare tool, so you’ll need to purchase a battery separately. I upgraded from an old corded reciprocating saw to this model, and I wish I had done it sooner. I’m extremely satisfied with its performance. It delivers impressive power for a cordless saw and has good ergonomics. The quick blade release is a fantastic feature. I highly recommend it.

I had my eye on this tool for quite some time and finally treated myself for Father’s Day. Although it’s a bit heavy, its size and power make it incredibly effective. I appreciate the quick-change blade feature and the ability to rotate the powerhead to different angles. Since I already own several yellow tools and batteries, opting for this tool-only deal was a no-brainer. I was cutting through wood within an hour of the delivery!

This is a tool-only version, making it ideal for anyone already using the Dewalt tool system. The unit is well-constructed, reflecting the typical Dewalt quality. It has a solid weight without being overly heavy. Adding a 4A battery pack didn’t throw off the balance; it felt comfortable in my hands during use. I appreciate the safety switch that locks the trigger, preventing accidental activation while changing blades or in the presence of curious little ones. I habitually remove the battery after use, even if I’m just stepping away for a minute.
Installing blades is straightforward: simply flip the tab on the side and slide the blade in. However, I wish the tab didn’t require continuous pressure to stay up; it’s spring-loaded, so it locks again if you let go. I prefer a mechanism that allows for unlocking and then locking, but that’s a minor issue. The tool accommodates various blade mounting options based on your needs, and the provided instructions are clear.
I needed a reciprocating saw for a quick project and successfully cut through two cedar fence ties stacked on top of each other. Due to space limitations, I had to cut from the bottom up, and the compact design of the tool excelled in this scenario. A standard-sized reciprocating saw wouldn’t have fit, but this one allowed me to maneuver into a tight spot while maintaining control. The grip was solid, making it easy to handle.
While the saw does have a bit of kickback, using common sense—holding it steady and not forcing it to cut faster than it can handle—will prevent any issues. I used Diablo blades with this saw, as I’ve had good experiences with them in the past, and the combination worked perfectly for my needs, making quick work of cutting through both ties.

I finally decided to add this 20v cordless reciprocating saw to my collection, and I’m so glad I did. My old corded Dewalt saw was difficult to maneuver in certain areas of my yard. This new saw performs excellently with a 5AH battery, and the battery life is impressive given the demands of the tool. I’ve been using it to remove stumps and roots while cleaning up a wooded section of our property. True to Dewalt’s reputation for quality, this tool is a fantastic investment. The price on Amazon was great, and it has saved me a lot of time and effort on a challenging project. I can tell it will be a valuable addition to my toolkit for years to come.

I recently purchased this tool for cutting PVC and ABS pipes for a DIY project. While the tool feels sturdy and well-constructed, it has several frustrating issues:
The blades don’t lock securely. Even with DeWalt blades, there’s noticeable side-to-side movement once they’re locked in. It seems like the calipers don’t fully tighten over the blade, which is a significant flaw. At high speeds, this side-to-side motion could easily cause the blade to snap. I wonder if DeWalt designed this saw for thicker blades, and the newer ones are just not up to par, creating a potentially unsafe situation.
The angle of attack feels off. In the photos, you can see that the blade installs at an angle to the axis of motion, making it impossible to use the saw like a manual one where the teeth move directly back and forth. Instead, the teeth move away from the material when the blade pushes forward, and then hit the material at an angle when pulling back. This creates unnecessary vibration and leads to rougher cuts than if the blade teeth were moving directly along the axis.
The shoe at the tip is weak. The metal shoe at the tip is supposed to help align the saw for a 90-degree cut, but it swivels up and down without any way to lock it in place. This means it can move while cutting, adding instability to the process on top of the side-to-side blade play.
Overall, these issues significantly detract from the tool’s performance.
