After using my old Rocket vacuum for 8 years, I decided to take advantage of a holiday sale and purchase the Dyson V11. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks, and here are my thoughts:
• Suction Power: The V11’s suction is impressive, especially when compared to my old Rocket. Despite maintaining the filters on my previous vacuum, it couldn’t match the suction power of the V11.
• Packaging: The packaging is excessive—it’s like a Russian nesting doll! The vacuum is packed in multiple layers of boxes, each piece and attachment carefully nestled in its own cardboard support. While everything arrives undamaged, the sheer amount of packaging is overwhelming.
• Battery Life: The convenience of a cordless vacuum is a plus; no more switching outlets like with the Rocket. The charging stand is handy, but the battery only lasts about 25 minutes on the medium power setting. For a four-bedroom home, that’s insufficient. I’d prefer a corded vacuum to finish the job in one go. Recharge time takes a couple of hours.
• Motorbar Cleaning Head: The brush roller, designed to avoid tangling with hair and string, performs excellently. I usually deal with a lot of long hair and dental floss, but the V11’s roller remains tangle-free.
• Handle Design: The handle’s design is surprisingly not ergonomic. Its 90-degree alignment makes it harder to push forward, as my hand naturally wants to angle down. Additionally, the seam in the vacuum’s casing above the trigger rubs against my finger, causing discomfort over time.
• Trigger Sensitivity: Some users find the need to hold down the trigger bothersome, but I adapted quickly. Holding the vacuum in a normal grip keeps my finger on the trigger, which is sensitive enough that I rarely release it accidentally. However, it can be overly sensitive at times, leading to accidental activation.
• Height Consideration: The handle of the V11 is around 40 inches from the floor, compared to 42 inches on my old Rocket. At 6’2”, I find myself bending a bit more than I’d like. This may not be an issue for most users.
• Additional Notes: Static electricity builds up in the dust canister, and touching the plastic casing can give you a small shock. Also, when detaching the shaft and brush head to empty the canister, the parts don’t stand up on their own, unlike my old Rocket.
