The Fellowes 14C10 14-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper Shredder stands out in this increasingly crowded market, boasting impressive features and a reputation built on over a century of innovation. Below, we delve into the effectiveness, usability, and overall performance of this shredder based on extensive usage experiences from various users.
Design and Build Quality
The Fellowes 14C10 is designed with dimensions of 9.69 x 13.44 x 19.69 inches and a weight of 11.38 pounds, which gives it a compact yet robust presence in your office. Its elevated design not only adds a touch of sophistication but also ensures that it integrates seamlessly with modern home and office interiors. The construction feels sturdy, giving users a confidence that it can handle the rigors of daily shredding tasks.
Enhanced Efficiency and Security
One of the standout features of the Fellowes 14C10 is its ability to shred up to 14 sheets of paper at once into 5/32” x 1-9/16” cross-cut particles, achieving a Security Level of P-4. This level of shredding provides peace of mind for users looking to dispose of confidential documents securely. Reviews highlight that the machine effortlessly handles not just paper but also credit cards, staples, paper clips, and unopened junk mail. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for those who require a shredder that can do it all.
Quiet Operation and User Experience
Users have consistently praised the quiet operation of the Fellowes 14C10, noting that it operates with minimized noise, making it suitable for shared workspaces or home environments. One user even shared that their cat could use the shredder as a step-stool without tipping it over, a clear indication of its stable design. This is a significant improvement over previous models, which were often criticized for being too noisy or top-heavy.
Safety Features
The safety lock feature is another highlight, ensuring that the shredder can be disabled when not in use, protecting pets and children from accidentally activating the machine. This thoughtful inclusion adds an extra layer of safety, making it ideal for households with young children or pets.
Bin Capacity and Maintenance
Equipped with a 5-gallon pull-out bin, the Fellowes 14C10 can neatly contain over 250 shredded sheets, allowing for less frequent emptying. Users have noted how smoothly the bin slides in and out of the machine, enhancing the overall user experience. The double-wall construction of the bin ensures stability, which is often an issue with smaller shredders that use flimsy bottoms.
Performance and Durability
The shredder showcases superior efficiency with a continuous run-time of 10 minutes, following which a cool-down period is required. Many users reported that it operates flawlessly without overheating, even during extended usage sessions. Some long-term users have expressed their satisfaction with the durability of Fellowes shredders, highlighting that their previous models lasted for over a decade with proper care.
Price and Value

This shredder performed excellently, far surpassing my old one that finally quit after many years. It ran smoothly without any jams or the need to reverse the feed, although I made sure to keep the number of sheets below 9.

Despite being a well-known brand, the machine malfunctioned after just feeding in the second piece of paper. Please advise on how to claim a warranty, refund, or replacement unit. Thank you in advance.

My last Fellow’s machine lasted 13 or 14 years. It was well-geared and had a robust motor. Although no one in the family will admit it, something too thick went through, causing the cutters to separate and the guides to misalign. Despite all the damage, the machine continued to function. I’m very impressed with Fellow’s quality.

My heavy-duty Fellowes paper shredder recently stopped working after tackling paperwork from two families, totaling 100 years of documents. I opted for a personal shredder this time, and it performs wonderfully. I typically shred no more than four pages at a time and always adhere to the recommended usage duration. I’ve embraced a less-is-more approach and steer clear of materials that could jam the blades. With proper care, Fellowes shredders can last for years.

I really appreciate how quiet this shredder is, especially when compared to my old one. It’s also positioned under my office window, so my cat occasionally uses it as a step-stool to hop on and off the sill. My previous shredder was top-heavy and would often tip over when he jumped on it, but this one has remained stable, no matter how energetically he launches himself. Plus, it performs excellently, shredding paper thoroughly without jamming or leaving any edges unshredded.

Many small personal home shredders share a common issue: they require a heavy motorized shredding top to be perfectly aligned with a fragile bottom box that collects the paper shreds. If the tabs don’t align just right, the machine won’t function. This model has a similar design, and I initially struggled to fit the top correctly. However, unlike older models that necessitate this alignment every time you remove the bottom box to dispose of shreds, this one only requires it once during the initial setup. The top stays securely in place because the shreds are collected in a pull-out sliding drawer, making it easy to empty. Additionally, the dual-wall design (the outer box and the inner drawer) provides much better stability for the top. While larger and pricier office models have featured this design for some time, this is the first affordable small home model to incorporate a sliding inner collection drawer. It shreds efficiently and is well worth its reasonable price.
