After years of searching for a decent and affordable replacement for my 20+ year old Kenmore 120V dryer, I was nearly ready to give up. Then I decided to take a chance on the Black & Decker stackable dryer, inspired by all the positive reviews.
If you’re accustomed to a full-sized 240V dryer, you might not fully appreciate this little powerhouse! While it does have a smaller capacity and larger loads take longer to dry, the heat and functionality packed into such a compact design are impressive. It has significantly reduced my drying times across various load sizes and operates much quieter than my old dryer.
Initially, I found the controls a bit perplexing—coming from a model with separate timer settings and on/off knobs—but once I got the hang of it, everything worked smoothly. I also upgraded to a better indoor dryer vent kit to capture outgoing air and lint, and I followed others’ suggestions by adding nylon stocking material around the top vent holes, which effectively minimizes lint dust.
The only downside, as noted by others, is the placement of the controls at the bottom of the machine. Due to my storage setup, I can’t stack it above the washer as intended. It would be fantastic if the manufacturer offered options for both top and bottom controls. To address this, I purchased an adjustable appliance stand that raises the dryer about 9-10 inches off the floor. While it’s not perfect, it does make the controls easier to see and access, especially when reaching for the lint filter in the back. Plus, the stand allows for better air circulation and creates extra storage space underneath.
I can’t speak to its longevity just yet, but so far, I’m genuinely thrilled with this purchase. A huge thank you to the Amazon community for their helpful reviews that encouraged me to try this fantastic little machine! If you need a space-saving 120V dryer, don’t hesitate to buy this one!

I’m giving the BLACK+DECKER BCED26 2.65 cu ft Compact Dryer a five-star review. After using it several times [see 1-year update below], I’m really happy with its performance. I typically run it for about an hour per load, using a full-size washer to wash my clothes. Each time, I fill it to about half or two-thirds capacity, which gets my items sufficiently dry. I then place them on bamboo drying racks to finish drying. This includes heavier pants, towels, t-shirts, and more. If needed, running the dryer longer will ensure everything is completely dry.
For example, drying a damp bath towel takes only about 15 minutes. I live in a dry climate with indoor humidity around 40-50%, so hanging items dries them well. For smaller pieces, I partially dry them in the dryer, then toss them in a laundry basket and manually tumble them a few times throughout the day. Running them through the dryer for 30 to 60 minutes gives them a nice fluff, and the air drying finishes the job, which helps save energy and machine time. The 2.65 cu ft size works well for me; it may struggle with large comforters or blankets, but it handles regular sheets and clothing nicely. Generally, it takes about three dryer loads to dry a large full-size washer load.
For venting, I creatively used a 28 oz tomato can, cutting openings on both ends to form a 4-inch diameter vent, similar to dryer vent hoses. I purchased a flexible dryer vent hose (TEAIERXY 4 Inch 8ft Dryer Flexible Insulated Vent Hose PVC Aluminum Foil with 2 Clamps) and attached one end to the dryer output and the other to the can. Just a note: be cautious not to overtighten the clamp on the dryer as it’s plastic.
I also made a cardboard insert for my sideways-opening window, measuring about 5 inches wide and three feet tall. I cut a hole at the bottom for the can and secured it with metal tape to prevent any leaks. This setup allows me to vent through the window screen without needing to leave the window open, keeping the indoor temperature stable. It also worked fine without the cardboard, but using it is more efficient in extreme weather.
Additionally, I bought Essential Values Compatible Replacement Filters for Bettervent Indoor Dryer Vent for indoor use. While I don’t use them with the window vent setup, they can be stuffed into the can for indoor venting, although this may result in warm, humid air. Nonetheless, it’s a usable option if necessary.
I chose this dryer to avoid the toxic fragrances from dryer sheets used in the shared laundry facilities where I live. Such scents are harmful, especially to children. Even without dryer sheets, the lingering scent in the shared dryer would contaminate my laundry. With this dryer, I can utilize the full-size washer and dry my clothes independently, which is efficient and convenient – perfect for laundromat use as well, as it eliminates waiting for drying time.
To make it mobile, I placed it on a rolling TV cart that elevates it by about 18 inches. It’s light enough to move easily. The packaging was excellent, with cardboard, styrofoam, and plywood, and it weighed around 65 pounds, making it easy to carry with the straps. I measured its power usage at about 10 amps at 115 volts, roughly 1120 watts. I started with a 14 AWG, 12 amp, 50-foot extension cord, which isn’t typically recommended, but it worked fine, getting slightly warm. I keep a close eye on the cord and vent temperatures while it’s running for safety.
Overall, this dryer has been fantastic, earning a five-star rating. The controls are a bit unconventional, but the instructions are clear. The lint trap at the back can be a little tricky to disassemble at first, but I believe it will loosen with regular use. I use an old toothbrush to clean the filters, and there’s also an air intake filter that doesn’t require frequent cleaning.
ONE YEAR UPDATE
After a year of use, I still really like this dryer. I upgraded to a thicker, well-made 12 AWG 15 Amp 25-foot extension cord, and it performs much better – the cord stays completely cool now. I’ve also figured out a more efficient way to separate the lint trap. Once I remove the assembly (rotating until it clicks, then pulling it out), I grip it by the finger holes on one side and the small circular piece on the other to ease them apart. I clean the filter after each wash, which translates to about three 1-hour dryer cycles. The dual-layer filters seem to catch most of the lint, as I don’t find any on the window screen.
Using a handheld IR temperature gauge, I’ve noted that the air exiting the 8-foot dryer hose typically ranges from 85°F to 105°F. Once the hose temperature reaches around 95°F, I know my clothes are usually dry enough for my needs, with just a bit more air drying on the bamboo racks.

I’ve been drying my laundry on a rack for the past couple of years and have been quite happy with it, even if it took a long time and required a lot of space. So, having this new dryer feels like a real luxury! Honestly, I can’t believe I managed without it before.
It’s much larger than I anticipated, despite knowing the dimensions. Now I need to find a better spot for it. Don’t get me wrong—I’m thrilled, just a bit surprised by the size. When I saw the massive box it arrived in and watched the Amazon delivery guy struggle down my hallway with it, I thought I might have ordered the wrong item. The box could practically fit me inside, and I’m not exactly small!
Putting size aside, this machine is fantastic. I did a test run with five t-shirts, six pairs of underwear, and four pairs of socks, and it took just under an hour. That might sound lengthy, but when you’re not just sitting there watching it spin, the time flies by—it’s way faster than drying on a rack.
Regarding noise, it did make some sounds, but nothing I found bothersome. It was just regular white noise, and I didn’t hear a thing with my headphones on.
I deducted one star for ease of use because it took me a moment to figure out the “universal” symbols on the “auto-sense” feature. I had the choice between O and . After checking the manual, I realized that O (obviously, right?) stands for “ON.” The ECO mode symbols—a leaf and a t-shirt—were easy to decipher, but for some reason, O and threw me off. So let this be a little tip: O means ON.
TLDR: It’s bigger than you might expect unless you’re great at visualizing sizes (clearly I’m not), and while the buttons may confuse someone like me, this machine is fantastic, and I absolutely love it!
