      UPDATED REVIEW

I was pleasantly surprised by this phone. Initially, I anticipated encountering both minor and major issues, but so far, there have been none. Many reviews mention problems like overheating and a malfunctioning fingerprint scanner, but I haven’t experienced any of that. My previous used phone was a nightmare—terrible battery life, frequent overheating, a broken power button, constant freezing, and unreliable charging. I expected at least some of these issues with this phone, but thankfully, it has performed flawlessly. I genuinely believe it’s worth the $300-$400 investment. I’ll provide an update soon detailing some pros and cons, but as of now, I have no complaints.

      EDIT/UPDATE:

Everything I mentioned earlier still stands, but I’ve run into a problem. Whenever I try to download anything, it prompts me to enter my password. I’ve entered it correctly, but it says it’s wrong. To verify, I tried the same password on my Gmail, and it worked. I even changed the password, wrote it down, and felt optimistic. However, when I attempted to download an app, it asked for the same password again, and despite entering it correctly, it was deemed incorrect. I tried multiple times with the same result.

This issue extends beyond app downloads—since signing in to my account, the fingerprint sensor has stopped working, which is disappointing since it was so convenient. Now I have to type in my password, which is a hassle. Additionally, the pre-installed YouTube app also malfunctioned after I logged in, requesting the same password that the phone refuses to accept. Thankfully, I could access the Play Store after changing my password, but the inability to install apps is a significant concern.

I visited three different AT&T stores. The first two were unhelpful, simply directing me to another location. At the third store, we spent an hour trying to reset passwords and troubleshoot, but nothing worked. I plan to explore a few last resorts before considering returning the phone, which is unfortunate because everything else is great—it feels like new.

Also, this account is a child’s Gmail. My daughter is over 13, and everyone said it should convert to a regular account upon her turning 13, but that hasn’t happened. I checked the listed birthdate, and it’s correct, so I’m unsure if this issue lies with the phone or Gmail (which is why I haven’t rated it lower). I’ll update again if anything changes and will provide guidance on how to resolve these issues.

I’ve been using this phone for a full year now, so I feel qualified to provide a fair assessment. In short, it’s the best phone I’ve ever owned. While many other reviewers have highlighted the positive features, I’ll focus on a few aspects that could use improvement.

Firstly, the fingerprint sensor isn’t very reliable. To enhance its performance, I registered my thumb multiple times (out of the four available slots), which seems to improve recognition. I’ve found that a quick, firm tap on the sensor works best; lingering can cause my finger to shift slightly, leading to failed recognition. Additionally, cold fingers tend to reduce the success rate for scans.

Regarding cellular reception, it seems to be somewhat weaker in fringe areas compared to other brands like Samsung, which can affect usability in certain situations. However, it generally performs well, even with a weak signal.

The screen brightness could certainly be better. I usually keep mine set at 80%, which is adequate for indoor use, but when outdoors, I have to crank it up to 100%, and even then, it’s only just enough.

Wireless charging is relatively slow, but since I charge it overnight, it hasn’t posed an issue for me. If I need a quicker charge, I simply plug it in. The battery life is impressive, allowing me to charge once a day, even after hours of TikTok watching.

As for the camera, while I’m very pleased with its performance in most conditions, especially in low light, excessive lens flare can occur with a bright light source in a dark scene, resembling flower petals. I know it’s not a high-end device, but I feel they could have improved this aspect for the price point.

Photo processing generally yields excellent results, particularly in challenging lighting situations. However, the digital zoom struggles with fine detail, as the algorithms attempt to artificially enhance it, leading to odd patterns. I would prefer it to just be a bit fuzzy instead.

Lastly, there’s no option for 720p video recording in the camera app, which I sometimes prefer for saving memory. I’ve tried third-party apps, but none are as user-friendly as the Google camera app.

Now, onto the positives. The processing speed and overall responsiveness are fantastic; it never keeps me waiting. The camera is exceptional, especially in low-light conditions—this was a major factor in choosing a Google Pixel. The size is perfect for my hand and fits comfortably in any pocket. The screen has good color balance and clarity, although it could be brighter. Battery life has been impressive; I haven’t run out of power yet, even with heavy usage.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with this phone and would buy another one immediately if anything happened to it.

I was really annoyed that it didn’t come with a charger; it only includes a transfer cable. For the price, I felt like returning it since a fast charger should be included. To make matters worse, it turned off by itself and now won’t turn back on. The seller isn’t responding regarding the warranty, and I’m still being charged. Do not buy!

To clarify, this is what you will get (see attached picture). It works well for me with Giffgaff in the UK, which is great. However, one downside to note is that since this is a Japanese phone, you cannot turn off the camera sound. This can be quite frustrating, although I’m personally okay with it, even if it does seem a bit silly.

I’ve owned a mix of flagship and budget phones. After losing one to theft and another to seawater, I decided to switch to a budget option. I was drawn to the Moto Power G for its impressive battery life and affordable price, but I encountered issues with its speakers. When I spotted an amazing deal on the 7A for $249 on Amazon six months ago, I went for it as a middle ground. It’s an excellent phone! With a reasonably priced Otter Commuter case and some screen protectors, my total investment is under $300, which eases my worries about damage or loss. The performance is fantastic, and the camera, speaker, and microphone quality far exceed that of budget phones. While the battery life isn’t quite as stellar, it’s still more than adequate. The screen is a bit smaller, but it doesn’t bother me. I haven’t seen the 7A at that low price again, but I’m sure prices will continue to drop. Plus, it now has extended software updates. I’d definitely repurchase it if I somehow manage to break it, which seems to be my usual luck.

I’m very pleased with this phone and am enjoying learning all its features. The camera takes excellent pictures, and the setup process was a breeze. While I’ll need to see how it performs over time, I’m already quite impressed. It offers many features that you’d typically find in much more expensive phones, making it a great value, especially if you catch it on sale. It feels high-quality in hand, and I made sure to order a screen protector and case from Amazon to keep it safe from scratches and damage right from the start.

The phone is quite good, but it has one issue: it doesn’t connect to the Altan Redes network (a28). However, it works well with all other carriers.

I’ve had an amazing experience with this phone! It’s incredibly fast and still maintains a portable size. After switching from the XR, I’m truly impressed. I got it on sale, and I’m so glad I did. I may not know all the technical details about phones, but as a blue-collar worker, I’ve had no problems with drops, dust, or scratches after adding an OtterBox. Bluetooth works perfectly, apps open without delay, and both the speaker and microphone quality are excellent. In my opinion, this is the best phone ever and offers unbeatable value for your money!
