In-Depth Review of the iRobot Roomba E5 Self-Charging Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum – Black

The iRobot Roomba E5 has emerged as a popular choice for those looking to simplify their cleaning routine. Designed to tackle pet hair and everyday messes, this robot vacuum combines advanced technology with user-friendly features. After several days of usage, we’re ready to dive into the details of its performance, pros, cons, and overall value.

Performance

Cleaning Efficiency

The Roomba E5 excels in its primary objective: cleaning. Users consistently report that it picks up pet hair remarkably well, making it an ideal choice for pet owners. A comparative test by one reviewer highlighted that the Roomba continued to discover hair even after a traditional vacuuming session, proving its thoroughness. The device also effectively navigates under furniture, ensuring that dust and dirt in hard-to-reach areas are not overlooked. Overall, we rate its cleaning efficiency a solid 5 out of 5.

Battery Life and Charging

Another standout feature is the Roomba E5’s battery life. It automatically returns to its charging station when the battery is low, ensuring that it’s always ready for the next cleaning session. Users report that it can handle a significant area before needing a recharge. This feature earns it a rating of 4 out of 5 for reliability, as it performs well in daily use.

User Experience

App Integration and Setup

The iRobot app enhances the user experience by allowing for easy setup and navigation. Users can start cleaning sessions remotely and even locate the Roomba if it gets stuck. However, there have been complaints about the lack of a physical manual, which could be frustrating for those who prefer printed instructions. Given this mixed feedback, we assign a rating of 3 out of 5 for user experience related to setup.

Noise Levels

While the Roomba E5 is not excessively loud, it is noisier than some users expected. It doesn’t reach the decibel levels of a traditional vacuum, but it’s not silent either. For households where quiet operation is crucial, such as during nighttime, this could be a concern. Therefore, we give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5 for noise levels.

Design and Build Quality

Canister Size

The vacuum’s dirt canister is on the smaller side, which can be problematic for pet owners whose furry friends shed frequently. Users have reported needing to empty the canister multiple times during a cleaning cycle. This feature could be seen as a drawback in comparison to more advanced models that offer larger canister sizes. We rate this aspect a 2.5 out of 5, as it may require more maintenance than some users are prepared for.

Dirt Disposal

Users have also noted a design flaw regarding the dirt disposal mechanism. When removing the canister, some dirt tends to fall out, requiring an additional clean-up effort. Future iterations may benefit from a design that reduces this issue, leading to a rating of 2 out of 5 for this specific design aspect.

Overall Impression

The iRobot Roomba E5 is a powerful and effective cleaning tool that excels at picking up pet hair and maintaining cleanliness in various household environments. While it has some design flaws and noise levels that might not suit everyone, its efficient cleaning performance, battery life, and user-friendly app integration make it a strong contender in the robot vacuum market.

Final Ratings

  • Cleaning Efficiency: 5/5
  • Battery Life and Charging: 4/5
  • User Experience: 3/5
  • Noise Levels: 3.5/5
  • Canister Size: 2.5/5

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

In summary, the iRobot Roomba E5 is a great starter robot vacuum that is particularly well-suited for pet owners. With its solid cleaning performance and ease of use, it stands out in the robot vacuum market, despite some minor drawbacks. It’s a worthwhile choice for anyone looking to maintain a cleaner home with less effort.

I am genuinely impressed with how well this product performs. It does everything it claims to do effectively. The only downside is that the robot’s dirt storage fills up quickly. This might just reflect how poorly I cleaned before. I’ll have more insight in the coming weeks.

Excellent entry-level robot vacuum! I run it daily. Be prepared to empty the dust bin after each use. My only concern is that my dogs’ long hair tends to get caught in the dust bin.

I’m disappointed that the vacuum came without any instructions—no owner’s manual, no operating manual, absolutely nothing! I prefer having printed instructions rather than digital ones on a computer or phone. As a result, my Roomba is still sitting in its charging station because I have no idea how to set it up.

The robot performs exceptionally well. However, I find it frustrating that when I remove the small dirt bin, some debris spills onto the floor. This means I have to vacuum up the mess afterward. It seems like it would be better designed with a lip inside to contain all the dirt.

I took a few days before writing this review. In short: it does its job extremely well, and I would recommend it, though there are a few things to consider.

PROS: It cleans exceptionally well, especially when it comes to pet hair. I vacuumed beforehand, and the Roomba still picked up more hair. The app makes setting it up and locating it very user-friendly. My dogs surprisingly don’t mind it; they usually bark or try to bite vacuums, but they were just curious at first and then ignored it. It also cleans under furniture that you might miss with a traditional vacuum. Plus, the battery life is great, and it self-parks!

CONS: It’s louder than I anticipated. While it’s not as annoying as a regular vacuum, it’s not completely silent, so I wouldn’t run it while I’m sleeping. The canister is somewhat small, so if you have pets, it fills up quickly—you may need to empty it a couple of times during a cleaning cycle, depending on your home size and number of pets. This issue is addressed in more expensive models.

These units are almost like new, featuring a built-in hour meter that indicates just 100 hours. In contrast, my other two used units, which are getting close to the end of their lifespan, each show around 1,400 hours.
