Review of the Logitech G535 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Headset

The Logitech G535 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Headset is a gaming accessory that has gained attention for its lightweight design, impressive battery life, and user-friendly features. In this review, we will dive into the various aspects of this headset to determine how well it performs across several categories, including comfort, sound quality, connectivity, and overall usability.

Design and Comfort

Lightweight Structure

One of the standout features of the G535 is its lightweight design, weighing in at just 236 grams (8.3 ounces). This makes it one of the lightest headsets on the market, allowing for extended gaming or movie-watching sessions without causing discomfort. The reversible suspension headband helps distribute weight evenly, providing a customized fit that many users appreciate.

Earcup Comfort

The earcups are covered in soft memory foam and sports mesh material, making them comfortable for prolonged wear. Users have reported that even after hours of use, the headset remains comfortable, with little to no pressure on the ears. The on-ear design allows for a snug fit while still being breathable, which is especially beneficial during long gaming sessions.

Sound Quality

Audio Performance

Equipped with 40 mm neodymium drivers, the G535 delivers crisp, clear, and deep stereo sound. The headset covers a frequency response range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, ensuring that users can hear every detail in their games, music, or movies. Many users have noted that the sound quality is impressive for the price point, offering a balanced audio experience that enhances gaming performance and media consumption.

Microphone Quality

The G535 features a flip-to-mute microphone that has been commended for its clarity. It is Discord Certified, ensuring that users can communicate effectively during gaming sessions. Although it lacks advanced customization options such as Blue Voice, many users find the microphone performs well enough for casual gaming and voice chats.

Battery Life and Charging

Impressive Battery Performance

One of the most notable features of the G535 is its battery life. With up to 33 hours of usage on a full charge, this headset is designed for long sessions without the need for frequent recharging. Users have reported logging extended hours of use with a significant charge remaining, making it a reliable option for those who may forget to charge their devices regularly.

Charging Convenience

The headset charges via USB-C, and the included cable is of high quality and reasonable length. Users appreciate the quick charging time of approximately 2 hours, allowing them to get back to their gaming sessions with minimal downtime.

Connectivity

Wireless Freedom

The G535 utilizes Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED wireless technology, offering reliable connectivity up to 12 meters (about 40 feet). The small and discrete dongle makes it easy to connect to PCs and PlayStation devices. However, some users have noted experiencing occasional audio break-up when moving out of range or when the dongle is plugged into certain ports, indicating a need for optimal placement for best performance.

Compatibility

The headset is compatible with various devices, including PC and PlayStation consoles. Its plug-and-play functionality makes it easy to set up and start using right away, which is a significant plus for gamers who want to avoid complicated installations.

Overall Usability

On-Ear Controls

The volume control is conveniently located on the ear cup, allowing users to adjust sound levels without interrupting their gaming experience. The flip-to-mute feature for the microphone is particularly handy, making it easy to silence oneself quickly during intense moments or when needing to communicate off-mic.

Aesthetic Appeal

The sleek black design with subtly integrated branding makes the G535 visually appealing. It fits well within the gaming aesthetic without being overly flashy.

The microphone’s flip-up and down feature for muting and unmuting is great. After a year of use, these headphones are still my go-to, and I absolutely love them. Depending on where the dongle is plugged in, you might experience some audio dropouts when moving out of the room, but the range is still quite decent. I’ve found that plugging it into the top of my PC tower provides the best connectivity.

The sound quality is impressive, and the accompanying software allows for neat adjustments, including battery monitoring. The battery life is acceptable, but I recommend charging it after every one or two sessions, as I frequently hear the “low battery” beep. While it won’t drain completely in a day, consistent charging is advisable for near-daily use.

It doesn’t have strong sound cancellation, which works in my favor since I like to stay aware of my environment while wearing them. The adjustable purple and blue band is a nice touch, too.

The only downside I’ve encountered is that after a year, the mic sometimes doesn’t register the flip to mute or unmute correctly, occasionally missing one direction. Thankfully, it makes a sound when toggling, so it’s easy to notice and correct by repositioning it. This issue isn’t frequent, and I suspect it’s due to my hasty handling. If you’re gentle and not in a rush, you likely won’t have any problems.

Another positive is that the mic is non-detachable, so you won’t misplace it—great for someone like me. Overall, I’m pleased with the connectivity, sound quality, and battery life. I’m seriously considering purchasing these again.

The two listening options are very convenient and offer great sound quality.

I previously owned these (in black) and after 3 years of use, here are my thoughts:

    Pros:

    • They are quite comfortable; the headband doesn’t press too hard, and the included elastic band fits well on the head. Perfect for long sessions.
    • The fabric ear cushions don’t retain heat and are just the right size. They are also easy to remove for washing and keeping them clean.
    • Sound: I’m very particular about audio; considering their price, they deliver strong and clear sound. I mainly use them for music, movies, gaming, and chatting. Even without 7.1 or software enhancements, I can enjoy and distinguish the instruments in a song or catch subtle details in movies and games.
    • Microphone: For the cost, they offer good quality/price ratio, capturing my voice clearly with minimal background noise, although this can also depend on the application you use.

    Cons:

    • They lack Blue Voice, so there are no customization options, profiles, or filters.
    • The microphone mute mechanism wears out over time; however, it took about 3 years for it to start failing and causing occasional static.
    • The volume wheel is initially a bit stiff when new, but over time it also loosens and may cause static or only one side of the headphones to work. It can be fixed by adjusting it like a radio to get sound from both sides again.
    • (The issues with the microphone and volume wheel only arose in the last few months of use.)

Although there are better or wireless options available, I repurchased these because I was satisfied and didn’t need something more. If you’ve never had a pair, they are a great starting point, and if you’re upgrading from a more basic model, you’ll definitely notice the difference.

    Strengths:

    • Comfort: I usually find my glasses press against my ears due to the headset, and I have slightly larger ears. However, the spacious design of this headset allows it to fit perfectly with my glasses without causing discomfort, even around my cartilage piercing. Sometimes, I forget I’m even wearing them! The cushioned support is comfortable, and the fabric compartment ensures durability—at most, it just needs a wash.
    • Lightweight: It’s astonishing how light this headset is! You won’t have to worry about it when carrying it in a backpack.
    • Battery Life: The battery lasts 2-3 days, and that’s with my daily usage of 6-8 hours.
    • Microphone: It works fine for work; I’ve never received complaints. For gaming, it offers excellent value, and buying an additional mic would be a personal choice.
    • Sound Quality: I play a lot of FPS games, and the audio quality is exceptional for positional dynamics—it has never let me down. For music, I use Spotify’s equalizer, and it sounds perfect. The volume is moderate, ensuring it won’t damage our hearing. Great balance!

    Weaknesses:

    • Cable: The cable is a bit short, but if your workstation is nearby, you won’t have trouble using it while working or gaming. It’s easier to manage with a laptop.
    • Price: I debated between this model and the PRO. While I don’t regret my choice, I might opt for the PRO for its aesthetics if I were to choose again, especially for long-term use.
    • Software: I don’t use it much, though I’d like to have options to select audio outputs for FPS games or check the battery level. More functionality would be great!

I gifted this product to a friend, and the feedback I’ve received is outstanding. It delivers exactly what many people seek: comfort and quality. The strap is fantastic as it doesn’t hurt the head or mess up the hair. The sound quality is impeccable, allowing you to wear the headphones around your neck without needing to place them in your ears. The microphone is another strong feature, as Logitech clearly didn’t cut corners here. However, it’s noticeable that the quality of the plastic material has been compromised in favor of these positives. Despite this, the product is excellent, and I highly recommend it.

    Pros:

    • Exceptional Battery Life: I logged 9 hours of use while working from home on a full charge and still had 77% battery remaining the next day. This is ideal for those who may not use the headset daily or forget to charge it regularly.
    • USB-C Charging: The included A to C cable is high-quality and long, making charging convenient.
    • Compact Dongle: The Lightspeed dongle is small and unobtrusive.
    • Comfort: After some adjustments to the ski band and earcup positioning, I found a comfortable setup that works for me. As someone with medium-sized ears and wearing stud earrings, I initially experienced some discomfort, but adjusting the earcups and band size resolved that. I wore these all day for work without realizing I wasn’t in my usual Beyerdynamic DT770s, which are my top choice for comfort.
    • Logi GHub Features: The connectivity and customization options are user-friendly, offering simple control over volume, mic levels, sidetone, and audio EQ settings.
    • Subtle Design: The headset doesn’t scream “gamer,” making it suitable for professional video calls.
    • Convenient Mic Mute: The flip-to-mute feature is practical and easy to use, allowing for quick muting on Discord or Teams without hassle.
    • Intuitive Controls: The volume wheel and power button are well-placed and sized, with only occasional accidental adjustments.

    Cons:

    • Weak Noise Cancelling: There’s no active noise cancelling, and while isolation from external sounds is limited, this wasn’t a major issue for me since I typically play in quiet environments.
    • Mic Quality: The 2.4GHz wireless mic has the usual downsides, with reduced highs and a thinner low end. However, it performs adequately for gaming, work calls, and general communication.
    • Sound Quality: As someone who does audio recording and mixing, I find the sound quality acceptable for casual use. The G535s are fine for gaming, calls, and music, but the stereo soundstage can feel a bit muddled. While the default EQ is decent, I made slight adjustments to enhance the highs and low end. For critical listening or mixing, I prefer my Beyerdynamic DT770s, which excel in clarity and detail.
    • No Bluetooth: While I have Galaxy Buds for my phone and laptop, I can easily use the USB Lightspeed dongle with my laptop for the G535s.

Overall Verdict: The G535 is my first venture into wireless gaming headsets, and I’m genuinely impressed by their performance, especially at $80 on sale! They accommodate various head sizes, boast impressive battery life, and deliver better audio and mic quality than many cheaper brands. The controls are well-designed and straightforward, offering a plug-and-play experience. I highly recommend this headset for anyone seeking value without overspending (like on the Gpro wireless).

These headsets are fantastic for PC and Xbox One gamers, and they should work with any device that has a headphone jack. A tip for Xbox users: avoid the dongle version if you have an Xbox One Gen 1, as the USB ports don’t support dongle devices.

As someone who has never invested in headphones before, I think these are a solid first choice. The volume could be better, but I’m not sure if that’s due to the Xbox One, Discord settings, or the headphones themselves. I appreciate that they lack noise-canceling features since it helps me stay aware of my surroundings—especially living in a rough neighborhood where it’s important to be alert. I can hear my friends clearly, although the volume isn’t overpowering, which is probably a good thing.

I really like how the ear cups and head strap are adjustable. The microphone can be easily muted by flipping it up, which is convenient. The ear cups fit comfortably around my ears and are plush enough for my sensitive skin. I can’t use in-ear devices, as they become painful quickly, so this design allows me to game for longer periods. The head strap is also a nice touch, preventing the hard plastic from pressing down on my head. If you’ve worn a headset for a long time, you know how uncomfortable that can be.
