I usually take my dog to a groomer, but as he ages, he becomes increasingly anxious about it. I decided to try this grooming set to cut his hair myself in hopes of reducing his stress. As someone with mobility challenges due to back and hip issues, I was pleasantly surprised by how manageable this set made the process.
My dog is a strong 30 lb mixed breed (a shih tzu-lab mix) and I started by turning the clippers on beside him to get him accustomed to the sound. He barely reacted and continued to snooze. I managed to trim a good portion of his side while he slept, and when he woke up, he just sniffed the clippers and settled back down. The biggest challenge was flipping him over without disturbing his nap, so I was thrilled that the noise didn’t scare him.

I was initially worried Diesel might look odd since I’ve seen some DIY haircuts that didn’t turn out well. I wanted to do a better job, and this set made it simple. Although I lack professional grooming skills, I occasionally trim my partner’s hair, mainly to manage his cowlick, so I was hopeful.
In the end, Diesel looked like he had just come from the groomer! While not flawless, the trim turned out nice, and I easily achieved an even look, even blending in some shorter areas. Diesel was thrilled to be cooler for the summer, and I’m planning to groom him again soon, which prompted me to write this review.
If anything were to happen to this trimmer, I would certainly repurchase it just for how quiet it is. The attached photo is from before his haircut; I didn’t take one after, and amusingly, he’s currently asleep!

My story:
I have a 160-170 lb dog, a mix of Anatolian Shepherd and German Wirehaired Pointer, with outrageously long, curly hair that tangles easily and makes him quite warm in the summer. I decided it was time to shave him. Initially, I was hesitant about this shaver due to its low cost, as I had previously used expensive shavers that didn’t perform well. However, after purchasing it in February 2024, I was amazed at how easily it tackled the large knots on his back, legs, and chest.
This spring, I shaved him down completely to eliminate the remaining tangles and help him stay cooler in the warmer weather. Using the shaver without a blade cover, it effortlessly handled the knots and buildup, taking only about an hour despite him moving around and needing breaks.
I recently used a blade cover again, and the shaver performed exceptionally well, even with my dog wanting to play and moving around. I still need to refine his face and the bottoms of his legs and paws when he’s feeling a bit lazier.
