We were looking for a solution that wouldn’t rely on propane, and this product runs solely on solar power. We have it set to low, and the freezer stays ice cold while the fridge performs excellently. Currently living in an RV, we plan to purchase two more of these once we build our solar-powered house.

Rec Pro certainly takes shipping seriously. My order arrived in just three business days. Installation was a breeze, and it cools down quickly once running. I’ll provide an update in six months.

This fridge fit perfectly with minimal adjustments. It has the same width (23-1/2”) as the Norcold N521, but it’s taller and much more spacious. It arrived undamaged and was securely packed upright on a pallet. FedEx contacted me to arrange the delivery, which was speedy. I highly recommend this fridge for anyone replacing one in their RV or travel trailer.

I’m swapping out the ammonia absorption fridge in my RV, and this unit offers a great price—much lower than comparable brands that were four times the cost. The build quality is solid, and it cools effectively. Plus, it’s remarkably quiet during operation. It seems to have reverse polarity protection as well. I accidentally mixed up the connections and was worried that I had damaged it, but after correcting the polarity, it powered on and started cooling right away. Impressive engineering!

I’ve been using this in my van for a year, and it works wonderfully. The only problem I’ve encountered is that the T-bar, which prevents the door from opening, has come loose and needs a replacement.

I bought this fridge in February 2024, and by April, I woke up to find most of my food spoiled due to a malfunction. While the company did send a replacement fridge, I faced another issue on September 7 when I discovered all my food had gone bad again. I tried to reach out, but the company was closed, so I sent an email. By the morning of September 9, I still hadn’t heard back, so I called again. The representative informed me that I needed to wait for a technician to return my call for troubleshooting. I explained that I had lost my food once more and was without a fridge, but she showed no empathy and ended the conversation with a curt “Thank you for calling, have a good day.” The customer service was extremely disappointing. Proceed with caution!

I replaced my original 3-way camper refrigerator with this one, and it outperforms the original by a long shot. It uses less than half an amp with a duty cycle of around 40 percent, making it perfect for overnight use without shore power. After testing it for 36 hours, I still had enough battery to start my truck. It cools down quickly and maintains a temperature of 35 degrees on the #6 setting, even with outside temperatures reaching 90 degrees.

We installed this fridge at our off-grid solar cabin in the Rockies to replace a Grape Solar model that lasted about eight years. This new fridge is significantly better, and I hope it proves to be more durable.

    • The quality is impressive: it features glass shelves, a separate freezer, dedicated can spaces, and an interior light.
    • It operates quietly with minimal noise.
    • Starting from an ambient temperature of 70°F, it took just 3.5 hours to cool down to 36°F before the compressor turned off. It was mostly empty aside from a few soda cans, so cooling at a rate of 9.5°F per hour when empty seems accurate.
    • When the compressor runs, it consumes about 80 watts (give or take 5).
    • I estimate a 50% run time at an external temperature of 70°F. For instance, it turned on at 12:52 AM at 40°F and turned off at 1:21 AM after reaching 36.6°F, then turned on again at 1:55 AM.
    • Based on this run rate, it likely consumes around 960 watt-hours per day in a 65-70°F environment (excluding any losses from door openings).
    • It has a wide voltage range, functioning down to 10.5 volts, which is a useful feature.
    • Although the documentation mentions a potential starting current surge of up to 20 amps, we did not experience this. It is connected to a 10-amp marine-style DC circuit breaker, which has never tripped.
    • Our setup includes about 6 feet of 8 AWG wire and a total of 25 feet with 4 conductors (a pair of 10 AWG and a pair of 12 AWG in parallel) plus another 6 feet of 12 AWG at the end. I estimate a voltage drop of 0.6 volts, giving us approximately 11.7 volts at the fridge while the compressor is running.
    • The fridge has three terminals for wiring connections: positive, negative, and ground, but no wire is included.

In comparison to a typical 3-way RV fridge, this unit has very low power consumption. For instance, our Dometic 3cf 3-way fridge in the camper draws around 150 watts when running on 12VDC. Before installing a DC-DC charger, we received minimal charging from our tow vehicle’s 7-pin connector.
