I have a good familiarity with this brand and generally appreciate their products, so I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of this one. While there are a few minor issues, they can easily be addressed with a bit of DIY effort.

Pros: I’ve been using this to resurface coasters with 80 grit sandpaper, and occasionally 60 grit for tougher surfaces. Changing the sanding belt is a breeze, and the adjustment knob quickly aligns it perfectly. The power is sufficient to feel safe, but it’s crucial to stay vigilant, as improper handling can lead to serious injuries.

Cons: The dust port is divided between the two sanding sections. Since I didn’t plan to use the side sander, I sealed off the bottom part using duct tape and hot glue. Additionally, I shortened the supplied Allen wrench to tighten the base while it’s in an upright position, as it’s nearly impossible to do so otherwise.

Overall, I’m really impressed. I’ve used it several times a week with my 5 HP shop vac connected. For woodwork, it performs well, but when sanding stone coasters, I had to tape off some areas to enhance suction in the main sanding section. This isn’t a problem if you have a dust collector.

As a tip, consider getting a large rubber cleaning eraser for around $7-$8. It works wonders for cleaning the surface, and despite using the 80 grit on multiple stones, the original belt is still in good condition. Replacement sanding belts are affordable, so the eraser is a worthwhile investment. Just be cautious when using the eraser, as it can get caught in the belt; I recommend holding it at a 45° angle to minimize this risk.

I’m quite satisfied with this product; it performs well and feels sturdy. It meets my expectations perfectly. Changing the belt is straightforward, and switching the belt sander from horizontal to vertical is effortless. If it holds up over time, I’ll be very pleased.

    Now, onto a few critiques:
Firstly, I received a used model that Amazon claimed was inspected, but that wasn’t the case. The disc head was loose, which led to me wasting a sanding disc to tighten it. The screw was several turns loose, which was pretty obvious, so I can’t accept that it was thoroughly inspected. I wonder if that’s why it was returned in the first place—perhaps the previous owner thought it was defective due to the wobbling disc? My advice is to carefully review the included manual before using it. The drive belt was also completely loose.

Additionally, the unit features an odd mix of solid cast iron and pressed steel parts alongside cheaper plastic components. However, overall, I believe it’s a reliable unit, so don’t let that deter you; they likely cut costs in those areas.

Getting the table for the disc sander square can be tricky. When you hold a square up to it and start tightening, it tends to shift. It’s achievable, but it requires some patience.

As for the miter square included, like many table saws these days, it’s on the cheaper side. It functions, but definitely verify it with a square—don’t trust the degree settings until you confirm them.

By the way, this is the same model sold at a well-known Canadian retailer with tires in their name, but theirs is painted blue and costs significantly more. This is a better deal for the same unit in a different color.

I recently purchased the WEN benchtop sander to replace my old Harbor Freight model, and it’s a significant improvement. The base is hefty, providing excellent stability. Assembly was minimal and straightforward. Switching out sanding belts is quick and hassle-free, as everything fits together perfectly and operates smoothly. I highly recommend this for those on a budget. I’ll provide an update after using it more extensively.

I purchased this product a little over two years ago and used it frequently for a while. I even left it outside for several months, but it still functions perfectly today. I haven’t encountered any issues, and there’s no rust at all. The paint looks as good as new, and it securely holds the sandpaper roll just like it did when I first bought it. It runs smoothly as well. The only part that shows rust is the included Allen tool, but that’s a minor issue; just keep the Allen key stored away to prevent it. Overall, it’s an excellent tool at a fantastic price.

I purchased this sander six months ago, and it works perfectly. It’s sturdy, stable, and has impressive power—better than many common brands available in Mexico, and it comes at a lower price. For home use, it’s an excellent choice.

    PROS:

    • Affordable
    • Relatively quiet for this type of machine
    • Versatile
    • Good finish

    CONS:

    • Requires an adapter for the vacuum port (it’s larger)
    • Lacks a comprehensive user manual; the existing one is brief and only in English.

The designs of various brands are remarkably similar, so if they are all produced in the same factory (or even the same one), I’d recommend going with this option. I previously owned a similar sander from Harbor Freight, but it was inferior in quality and featured an outdated design with a sheet metal frame, which isn’t ideal. It worked well for light home use, but I quickly learned it couldn’t handle more than 15 minutes of operation at a time.

I replaced it with this WEN model after just three months of my woodworking hobby, and I’ve been using it for two years now, several days a week for multiple hours at a time.

Pros: The fence is better than most; it can be aligned to accommodate wider boards without interference from the disc sander or fence mount (provided the gap isn’t set too high). It has proven to be reliable, although I noticed some bearing noise after a year, which required a bit of lubrication and cleaning—standard maintenance for any tool. Belt changes are a breeze with no screws or covers to deal with; just loosen one pivot bolt to switch it out when in flatbed mode. This is a huge improvement over the Harbor Freight model, which required removing six screws and multiple shrouds each time. And let’s not forget how many belts you need to sand wood from 80 to 320 grit—it makes a significant difference!

Cons: Like many brands, the fence could be a couple of inches lower on the bed. I ended up repurposing my Harbor Freight fence to gain an extra inch in sanding length, but this made it tricky for wider pieces. I may have a custom fence made in the future to utilize the full length of the flatbed, but WEN’s fence is still better than most I’ve come across. The disc sander deck can easily go out of alignment due to having only one adjustment screw, and the miter gauge lacks accuracy due to a loose track—again, a common issue with many brands. The dust collector inlet could be improved for flatbed sanding, although it works well in the vertical position.

What I appreciate about the WEN is the realization that most major brands have nearly identical models—often just different colored plastic parts. While some might offer a nicer miter gauge or a sturdier metal fence, the differences are minimal, so I wouldn’t pay double for those slight upgrades.

Overall, I’m satisfied with my purchase since I haven’t found significantly better designs, even among higher-end brands. I’d rather replace this unit twice than spend more money on the same basic design offered by others. I may still push its limits occasionally, but it has held up well so far. Eventually, I plan to upgrade to a 6″ x 48″ sander, but for now, this 4″ model is serving me quite well. I would recommend this particular model over the Harbor Freight version—it’s worth the extra few dollars, but not by a large margin.

Fantastic value! Setup was a breeze, and I can switch the belt in no time. The build quality is impressive, it operates quietly, and has plenty of power. It tackles any task with ease, and even my wife loves using it.

I would definitely purchase this machine again without hesitation, although I hope I won’t need to since it’s built to last. I appreciate the flexibility of using it as both a disk sander and a belt sander, with the added feature of angling the surface or positioning the belt vertically when needed. It’s incredibly versatile and budget-friendly. This tool was a tremendous asset for my woodworking project, and I’m extremely pleased with my decision to buy it.
