I bought this product at the end of 2021 and have since used it on several vehicles. For the price, this scanner performs well overall. It offers more features than basic OBD scanners typically found in auto parts stores, which usually only provide standard OBD codes. I especially value the live data function that allows for real-time data monitoring. However, it’s important to note that newer vehicles have more functionality compared to those from the pre-2000s or early 2000s. The app enables you to store information based on the VIN and easily switch between vehicles, though sometimes it takes longer to scan and retrieve data depending on the scan type. Overall, I feel this product is worth the investment.

This product performed exceptionally well. Setting it up on my iPhone was a breeze. I appreciate that it sends results straight to my phone, identifies potential issues, and provides links to purchase parts along with tutorial videos for repairs. Plus, after fixing the problem, you can easily go back to clear the codes. I’m really happy I invested a little more to get this one.

This device retrieves codes not just for the check engine light, but also for the ABS and various modules, among other things. It has continued to function perfectly for over three years. It performs smog checks, displays live data, and successfully clears codes. After the initial connection, it automatically pairs each time. Plus, it provides Amazon links to the necessary parts, which has assisted me in repairing my car multiple times.

The BlueDriver is an outstanding tool. Initially, I ordered a basic OBD scanner to diagnose the Check Engine Light on my vehicle, but it proved to be ineffective; it couldn’t register any codes, rendering it almost useless, as my mechanic confirmed. That budget option is headed to the ECO Station.
After researching, I found that BlueDriver received high praise from several reputable sources, including popular ones like Car and Driver, often being listed among the best Bluetooth OBD scanners for DIY mechanics. I decided to try it as a replacement, and I have been thoroughly impressed. The device is compact, and the accompanying app is very user-friendly. It worked perfectly right out of the box, successfully reading multiple codes from my vehicle. For each code, the app provides a brief description, information on how common the issue is for my vehicle make and model, and suggestions for common fixes. It even includes links to relevant parts and allows users to submit their own solutions for others to access.
The app boasts several features, such as live monitoring of different systems in the car and the ability to conduct various scans from basic to more detailed. It saves each scan for easy reference, which is helpful for comparing and tracking progress as I work through the issues. Naturally, it can also clear codes and provide some freeze frame data for the codes it detects, although so far this appears limited to the first or oldest registered code.
The Help section in the app contains concise yet informative videos that explain each feature and functionality thoroughly.
I’ve only used it a few times, so I haven’t explored all its capabilities (some may be beyond my needs), but I’m genuinely impressed so far and highly recommend this device. It’s well worth the investment, and its compact size is not intrusive when connected to my vehicle, making it easy to transport. Plus, it frequently goes on sale, which is an added bonus.
Thank you, BlueDriver, for a fantastic product!

I purchased this product with my own money, not as a free item for review, hoping to replace my cumbersome, expensive handheld devices that require frequent trips to the computer for code lookups and troubleshooting online. I’d previously tried a similar device from Amazon for about $18, which required additional phone apps costing around $10. While it was functional, I craved more detailed information. After reading Amazon reviews, I concluded that this model was the best choice available in January 2016. It arrived in just two days with Prime shipping.
After plugging it into my three vehicles, I was amazed at the wealth of information it provided. We even sold our handheld devices on Craigslist because this gadget performed so well. I do have a couple of minor complaints, which I’ll mention later.
I’ve been searching for another used vehicle, and this device has saved us thousands of dollars. Its internet connectivity allows for quick access to additional information and software updates. It even tracks when error codes were last erased, an issue I’ve noticed is prevalent among dealers and private sellers in the 40207 and 33186 zip codes. Don’t forget, anyone can buy a cheap code reader to clear error codes for under $20!
Serious trouble codes will reappear immediately if cleared, while others may take a day or two of driving to show up again—too late if you’ve already purchased the car from a private seller. It’s amusing to watch their reactions when I tell them the error codes the vehicle is showing, alongside the possible causes, and that someone cleared the codes just 3 days, 22 hours, and 3 minutes ago! The device also gives a complete history of recalls for that make and model, allowing you to confirm with the seller or dealer whether those issues have been addressed.
Most sellers, whether dealers or private individuals, will insist that no codes have been erased. I simply inform them about what my device has detected, which shows someone previously erased codes just days ago. When they reluctantly admit the truth, I then ask what those erased codes were—hoping it’s something minor, but often it’s a significant issue like a faulty catalytic converter, O2 sensor, or problems with anti-lock brakes, steering angle sensors, or airbags.
This device has saved me thousands in potential repairs across several vehicles I was considering purchasing. Sellers were asking premium prices for vehicles, claiming there were “no warning lights on the dashboard,” after detailing the cars to make them look appealing!
In one case, I took a vehicle I liked for a dealership inspection and paid for it. Initially, they didn’t find what my code reader did (or perhaps they just didn’t connect their reader), but after I raised my concerns with the service manager, they eventually found the same erased codes and additional malfunction codes that weren’t showing on the dash. They ended up refunding my inspection fee due to their embarrassment. That alone made this device worth the investment!
I’ve also encountered situations where sellers attempted to pass off a lower model vehicle as a higher trim to fetch a better price. In the range of $7,000 to $15,000, I’ve seen private sellers try to misrepresent vehicles by adding letters from eBay or junkyards to inflate the model’s status. This device reads the VIN and verifies the exact make and model. The expressions on sellers’ faces when I tell them they’ve misrepresented their vehicle as a higher-end model are priceless! Some may argue that the title indicates the model, but that’s not always the case—my Honda Odyssey, for instance, doesn’t specify the model on the title.
It’s no secret that many people buy vehicles at auctions, clean them up, and resell them at a profit while posing as ordinary owners. Vehicle history reports can cost around $40 per vehicle and add up quickly if you’re reviewing multiple cars. I prefer Carfax as they provide comprehensive service information unlike competitors.
In my area and in Miami, a significant number of individuals sell more than ten vehicles a year—which legally requires a dealer’s license. When I question them about why the vehicle is not in their name or why they have multiple cars for sale, I often hear excuses about upgrading to a better vehicle. If you dig deeper, they sometimes reveal they are “wholesalers” without the necessary licenses or insurance and often lack transparency in their vehicle disclosures. Don’t get me started on those habitual sellers of salvage-titled vehicles!
Use this device wisely, and it can save you considerable headaches or help you negotiate a better price on a used vehicle. It’s also beneficial for checking your current vehicles and relaying specific issues to your mechanic. Being an informed consumer is crucial.
Regarding my complaints about the device:
While looking for used vehicles in the 40207 and 33186 zip codes, I typically start monitoring the vehicle’s data as it warms up before taking it for a drive. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced multiple instances where the connection drops while driving, forcing me to stop, reconnect, and lose all recorded data. I initially thought it might be an issue with my phone’s Bluetooth, but testing it on my wife’s iPhone yielded the same problem. Sellers aren’t thrilled about having to drive the vehicle again for me to gather more data.
The device has also fallen from the OBD-II plug several times, which is frustrating as it requires me to restart the process and lose all previously gathered data. Over the last three months, I’ve checked about 20 vehicles, typically emailing myself the results while the app runs. I show the seller any discrepancies I find, but I still haven’t figured out how to save data directly to my phone. Now, I’ve resorted to using blue tape to secure the device to the plug when it’s connected, which I find less than satisfactory. Hopefully, this review helps others in their search.

BlueDriver performs effectively. I tested it on a Cadillac SRX, a 2015 Honda CRV, a 2012 Nissan Altima, and a 2018 Mercedes GLC. This unit is a reliable code scanner and provides valuable real-time engine and system parameters. It even has the capability to scan for faults in Cadillac’s active cruise control radar and safety modules. Although it is not bi-directional, it efficiently reads fault codes and serves as a monitoring tool for numerous running parameters. It’s an excellent resource for engineers looking to analyze performance.

As a YouTube mechanic always looking to save money, I believe this product is a must-have for everyone. Given its low price, it deserves a spot in your glove box! The features are incredible, allowing you to monitor your car’s systems and alerting you if anything is off or needs attention. It not only reads check engine light codes but also provides insights into all the malfunctions your vehicle’s computer displays. It can clear codes and even suggests the most common fixes, directing you to Amazon to purchase the necessary parts—sometimes even including a tutorial for replacement! It’s so user-friendly that even if you’re not car-savvy, you’ll be impressed by its ease of use and functionality, regardless of your vehicle’s age.

I initially thought this product was intended solely for American cars, but I was pleasantly surprised by its effectiveness on my British vehicle. It successfully cleared my ABS warning light, which I didn’t expect to be triggered in the first place, and it has never reappeared. Additionally, it provides clear diagnostics about the issues with the car and allows me to monitor live data.
