After a week of use, I feel ready to share my thoughts. These headphones are nearly perfect, but Bose made some choices that conflict with the essence of high-fidelity audio. I had to turn off the Immersive Audio feature, as my S24 Ultra’s Dolby Atmos sounded much better without it. With both features enabled, there was an unwanted reverb and excessive post-processing that detracted from the natural sound. When I disabled them or used only Atmos, the music sounded much closer to its intended quality.
The sound quality is exceptional. Vocals are crystal clear, and I can distinctly hear both tonal (sub) and impulse (kick) bass. The mids are rich and pleasant. Increasing the treble a bit with the EQ worked wonders, even though I typically prefer boosted bass. I also found that slightly lowering the mids enhanced the overall sound. These headphones slightly outperform my Galaxy Buds Pro 2, but the lack of 24-bit audio on the QCs holds them back.
Update: I bought a Creative BT-W5 to enable AptX Adaptive, and the sound quality noticeably improved. However, it’s frustrating that I had to purchase this additional device.
In terms of build quality, they meet modern standards. I won’t test their durability, but the hinge on the ear cups appears to be metal. They’re comfortable enough for extended wear, although they have a bit of weight to them. My previous Sonys, which cost $200 at the time, were all plastic, so I can’t complain too much. Still, a bit more metal would be nice, as there seems to be an over-reliance on plastic nowadays.
One major drawback: THESE HEADPHONES DO NOT SUPPORT LDAC and only work with AptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC. This is incredibly frustrating given that they’re marketed as hi-fi headphones. I’ve also bought an AptX Bluetooth adapter in hopes of achieving high-fidelity sound from my PC.
I purchased these on sale using gift funds from my employer, making it a decent deal. However, the price is still somewhat steep. I recommend adding them to your wishlist and waiting for a sale (if they aren’t already discounted).
TL;DR – Great sound quality, but lack LDAC and mainstream AptX support. You might experience latency issues, which is a concern for audio engineering (important for me) and gaming.
